| بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ |
| 1. [74:31] | Wama jaAAalna as-habaalnnari illa mala-ikatan wamajaAAalna AAiddatahum illa fitnatan lillatheenakafaroo liyastayqina allatheena ootoo alkitabawayazdada allatheena amanoo eemananwala yartaba allatheena ootoo alkitabawaalmu/minoona waliyaqoola allatheena feequloobihim maradun waalkafiroona mathaarada Allahu bihatha mathalan kathalikayudillu Allahu man yashao wayahdee man yashaowama yaAAlamu junooda rabbika illa huwa wamahiya illa thikra lilbashari |  وما جعلنا أصحاب النار إلا ملائكة وما جعلنا عدتهم إلا فتنة للذين كفروا ليستيقن الذين أوتوا الكتاب ويزداد الذين آمنوا إيمانا ولا يرتاب الذين أوتوا الكتاب والمؤمنون وليقول الذين في قلوبهم مرض والكافرون ماذا أراد الله بهذا مثلا كذلك يضل الله من يشاء ويهدي من يشاء وما يعلم جنود ربك إلا هو وما هي إلا ذكرى للبشروَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَائِكَةً وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيْمَانًا وَلَا يَرْتَابَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَالْكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَذَا مَثَلًا كَذَلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَن يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَى لِلْبَشَرِ | |||||

| Tahir ul Qadri | اور ہم نے دوزخ کے داروغے صرف فرشتے ہی مقرر کئے ہیں اور ہم نے ان کی گنتی کافروں کے لئے محض آزمائش کے طور پر مقرر کی ہے تاکہ اہلِ کتاب یقین کر لیں (کہ قرآن اور نبوتِ محمدی صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم حق ہے کیونکہ ان کی کتب میں بھی یہی تعداد بیان کی گئی تھی) اور اہلِ ایمان کا ایمان (اس تصدیق سے) مزید بڑھ جائے، اور اہلِ کتاب اور مومنین (اس کی حقانیت میں) شک نہ کر سکیں، اور تاکہ وہ لوگ جن کے دلوں میں (نفاق کی) بیماری ہے اور کفار یہ کہیں کہ اس (تعداد کی) مثال سے اللہ کی مراد کیا ہے؟ اسی طرح اللہ (ایک ہی بات سے) جسے چاہتا ہے گمراہ ٹھہراتا ہے اور جسے چاہتا ہے ہدایت فرماتا ہے، اور آپ کے رب کے لشکروں کو اس کے سوا کوئی نہیں جانتا، اور یہ (دوزخ کا بیان) اِنسان کی نصیحت کے لئے ہی ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind.

| Words | |وما - And not| جعلنا - We have made| أصحاب - keepers| النار - (of) the Fire| إلا - except| ملائكة - Angels.| وما - And not| جعلنا - We have made| عدتهم - their number| إلا - except| فتنة - (as) a trial| للذين - for those who| كفروا - disbelieve -| ليستيقن - that may be certain| الذين - those who| أوتوا - were given| الكتاب - the Scripture| ويزداد - and may increase| الذين - those who| آمنوا - believe| إيمانا - (in) faith,| ولا - and not| يرتاب - may doubt| الذين - those who| أوتوا - were given| الكتاب - the Scripture| والمؤمنون - and the believers,| وليقول - and that may say| الذين - those| في - in| قلوبهم - their hearts| مرض - (is) a disease| والكافرون - and the disbelievers| ماذا - "What| أراد - (does) intend| الله - Allah| بهذا - by this| مثلا - example?"| كذلك - Thus| يضل - does let go astray| الله - Allah| من - whom| يشاء - He wills| ويهدي - and guides| من - whom| يشاء - He wills.| وما - And none| يعلم - knows| جنود - (the) hosts| ربك - (of) your Lord| إلا - except| هو - Him.| وما - And not| هي - it| إلا - (is) but| ذكرى - a reminder| للبشر - to (the) human beings.| | ||||||
| 2. [74:32] | Kalla waalqamari | كلا والقمر كَلَّا وَالْقَمَرِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | ہاں، چاند کی قَسم (جس کا گھٹنا، بڑھنا اور غائب ہو جانا گواہی ہے) | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Nay, verily: By the Moon,
| ||||||
| Words | |كلا - Nay!| والقمر - By the moon,| | ||||||
| 3. [74:33] | Waallayli ith adbara | والليل إذ أدبر وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور رات کی قَسم جب وہ پیٹھ پھیر کر رخصت ہونے لگے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And by the Night as it retreateth,
| ||||||
| Words | |والليل - And the night| إذ - when| أدبر - it departs,| | ||||||
| 4. [74:34] | Waalssubhi ithaasfara | والصبح إذا أسفر وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور صبح کی قَسم جب وہ روشن ہو جائے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,-
| ||||||
| Words | |والصبح - And the morning| إذا - when| أسفر - it brightens,| | ||||||
| 5. [74:35] | Innaha la-ihda alkubari | إنها لإحدى الكبر إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | بے شک یہ (دوزخ) بہت بڑی آفتوں میں سے ایک ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | This is but one of the mighty (portents),
| ||||||
| Words | |إنها - Indeed, it| لإحدى - (is) surely one| الكبر - (of) the greatest,| | ||||||
| 6. [74:36] | Natheeran lilbashari | نذيرا للبشر نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | انسان کو ڈرانے والی ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | A warning to mankind,-
| ||||||
| Words | |نذيرا - A warning| للبشر - to (the) human being,| | ||||||
| 7. [74:39] | Illa as-haba alyameeni | إلا أصحاب اليمين إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | سوائے دائیں جانب والوں کے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Except the Companions of the Right Hand.
| ||||||
| Words | |إلا - Except| أصحاب - (the) companions| اليمين - (of) the right,| | ||||||
| 8. [74:40] | Fee jannatin yatasaaloona | في جنات يتساءلون فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (وہ) باغات میں ہوں گے، اور آپس میں پوچھتے ہوں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other,
| ||||||
| Words | |في - In| جنات - Gardens,| يتساءلون - asking each other,| | ||||||
| 9. [74:41] | AAani almujrimeena | عن المجرمين عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | مجرموں کے بارے میں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And (ask) of the Sinners:

| Words | |عن - About| المجرمين - the criminals,| | ||||||
| 10. [74:42] | Ma salakakum fee saqara | ما سلككم في سقر مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (اور کہیں گے:) تمہیں کیا چیز دوزخ میں لے گئی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "What led you into Hell Fire?"
| ||||||
| Words | |ما - "What| سلككم - led you| في - into| سقر - Hell?"| | ||||||
| 11. [74:37] | Liman shaa minkum an yataqaddama awyataakhkhara | لمن شاء منكم أن يتقدم أو يتأخر لِمَن شَاءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (یعنی) اس شخص کے لئے جو تم میں سے (نیکی میں) آگے بڑھنا چاہے یا جو (بدی میں پھنس کر) پیچھے رہ جائے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;-

| Words | |لمن - To whoever| شاء - wills| منكم - among you| أن - to| يتقدم - proceed| أو - or| يتأخر - stay behind.| | ||||||
| 12. [74:38] | Kullu nafsin bima kasabat raheenatun | كل نفس بما كسبت رهينة كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | ہر شخص اُن (اَعمال) کے بدلے جو اُس نے کما رکھے ہیں گروی ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds.
| ||||||
| Words | |كل - Every| نفس - soul,| بما - for what| كسبت - it has earned,| رهينة - (is) pledged,| | ||||||
| 13. [74:43] | Qaloo lam naku mina almusalleena | قالوا لم نك من المصلين قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | وہ کہیں گے: ہم نماز پڑھنے والوں میں نہ تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | They will say: "We were not of those who prayed;
| ||||||
| Words | |قالوا - They will say,| لم - "Not| نك - we were| من - of| المصلين - those who prayed,| | ||||||
| 14. [74:44] | Walam naku nutAAimu almiskeena | ولم نك نطعم المسكين وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور ہم محتاجوں کو کھانا نہیں کھلاتے تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent;
| ||||||
| Words | |ولم - And not| نك - we used to| نطعم - feed| المسكين - the poor,| | ||||||
| 15. [74:45] | Wakunna nakhoodu maAAa alkha-ideena | وكنا نخوض مع الخائضين وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور بیہودہ مشاغل والوں کے ساتھ (مل کر) ہم بھی بیہودہ مشغلوں میں پڑے رہتے تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers;
| ||||||
| Words | |وكنا - And we used to| نخوض - indulge in vain talk| مع - with| الخائضين - the vain talkers,| | ||||||
| 16. [74:46] | Wakunna nukaththibu biyawmi alddeeni | وكنا نكذب بيوم الدين وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور ہم روزِ جزا کو جھٹلایا کرتے تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,
| ||||||
| Words | |وكنا - And we used to| نكذب - deny| بيوم - (the) Day| الدين - (of) the Judgment,| | ||||||
| 17. [74:47] | Hatta atanaalyaqeenu | حتى أتانا اليقين حَتَّى أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | یہاں تک کہ ہم پر جس کا آنا یقینی تھا (وہ موت) آپہنچی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain."
| ||||||
| Words | |حتى - Until,| أتانا - came to us| اليقين - the certainty."| | ||||||
| 18. [74:48] | Fama tanfaAAuhum shafaAAatu alshshafiAAeena | فما تنفعهم شفاعة الشافعين فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | سو (اب) شفاعت کرنے والوں کی شفاعت انہیں کوئی نفع نہیں پہنچائے گی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them.
| ||||||
| Words | |فما - Then not| تنفعهم - will benefit them| شفاعة - intercession| الشافعين - (of) the intercessors.| | ||||||
| 19. [74:50] | Kaannahum humurun mustanfiratun | كأنهم حمر مستنفرة كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | گویا وہ بِدکے ہوئے (وحشی) گدھے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | As if they were affrighted asses,
| ||||||
| Words | |كأنهم - As if they (were)| حمر - donkeys| مستنفرة - frightened,| | ||||||
| 20. [74:51] | Farrat min qaswaratin | فرت من قسورة فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | جو شیر سے بھاگ کھڑے ہوئے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Fleeing from a lion!
| ||||||
| Words | |فرت - Fleeing| من - from| قسورة - a lion?| | ||||||
| 21. [74:49] | Fama lahum AAani alttathkiratimuAArideena | فما لهم عن التذكرة معرضين فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | تو ان (کفّار) کو کیا ہوگیا ہے کہ (پھر بھی) نصیحت سے رُوگردانی کئے ہوئے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?-
| ||||||
| Words | |فما - Then what| لهم - (is) for them,| عن - (that) from| التذكرة - the Reminder| معرضين - they (are) turning away| | ||||||
| 22. [74:52] | Bal yureedu kullu imri-in minhum an yu/tasuhufan munashsharatan | بل يريد كل امرئ منهم أن يؤتى صحفا منشرة بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَى صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | بلکہ ان میں سے ہر ایک شخص یہ چاہتا ہے کہ اُسے (براہِ راست) کھلے ہوئے (آسمانی) صحیفے دے دئیے جائیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out!
| ||||||
| Words | |بل - Nay!| يريد - Desires| كل - every| امرئ - person| منهم - of them| أن - that| يؤتى - he may be given| صحفا - pages| منشرة - spread out.| | ||||||
| 23. [74:53] | Kalla bal la yakhafoonaal-akhirata | كلا بل لا يخافون الآخرة كَلَّا بَل لاَّ يَخَافُونَ الْآخِرَةَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | ایسا ہرگز ممکن نہیں، بلکہ (حقیقت یہ ہے کہ) وہ لوگ آخرت سے ڈرتے ہی نہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter,
| ||||||
| Words | |كلا - Nay!| بل - But| لا - not| يخافون - they fear| الآخرة - the Hereafter.| | ||||||
| 24. [74:54] | Kalla innahu tathkiratun | كلا إنه تذكرة كَلَّا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | کچھ شک نہیں کہ یہ (قرآن) نصیحت ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Nay, this surely is an admonition:

| Words | |كلا - Nay!| إنه - Indeed, it| تذكرة - (is) a Reminder.| | ||||||
| 25. [74:55] | Faman shaa thakarahu | فمن شاء ذكره فَمَن شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پس جو چاہے اِسے یاد رکھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Let any who will, keep it in remembrance!
| ||||||
| Words | |فمن - So whoever| شاء - wills,| ذكره - (may) pay heed to it.| | ||||||
| 26. [74:56] | Wama yathkuroona illaan yashaa Allahu huwa ahlu alttaqwawaahlu almaghfirati | وما يذكرون إلا أن يشاء الله هو أهل التقوى وأهل المغفرة وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءُ اللَّهُ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَى وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور یہ لوگ (اِسے) یاد نہیں رکھیں گے مگر جب اللہ چاہے گا، وُہی تقوٰی (و پرہیزگاری) کا مستحق ہے اور مغفرت کا مالک ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness.

| Words | |وما - And not| يذكرون - will pay heed| إلا - except| أن - that| يشاء - wills| الله - Allah.| هو - He| أهل - (is) worthy| التقوى - to be feared,| وأهل - and worthy| المغفرة - to forgive.| | ||||||
