| Yousuf Ali | We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an, in order that ye may learn wisdom.

[12:3] | Nahnu naqussu AAalayka ahsanaalqasasi bima awhayna ilayka hathaalqur-ana wa-in kunta min qablihi lamina alghafileena | نحن نقص عليك أحسن القصص بما أوحينا إليك هذا القرآن وإن كنت من قبله لمن الغافلين نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ أَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ بِمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ هَـذَا الْقُرْآنَ وَإِن كُنتَ مِن قَبْلِهِ لَمِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (اے حبیب!) ہم آپ سے ایک بہترین قصہ بیان کرتے ہیں اس قرآن کے ذریعہ جسے ہم نے آپ کی طرف وحی کیا ہے، اگرچہ آپ اس سے قبل (اس قصہ سے) بے خبر تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | We do relate unto thee the most beautiful of stories, in that We reveal to thee this (portion of the) Qur'an: before this, thou too was among those who knew it not.

| Tahir ul Qadri | اور وہ (یوسف علیہ السلام کو کنویں میں پھینک کر) اپنے باپ کے پاس رات کے وقت (مکاری کا رونا) روتے ہوئے آئے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then they came to their father in the early part of the night, weeping.

[12:100] | WarafaAAa abawayhi AAala alAAarshiwakharroo lahu sujjadan waqala ya abati hathata/weelu ru/yaya min qablu qad jaAAalaha rabbee haqqanwaqad ahsana bee ith akhrajanee mina alssijniwajaa bikum mina albadwi min baAAdi an nazagha alshshaytanubaynee wabayna ikhwatee inna rabbee lateefun limayashao innahu huwa alAAaleemu alhakeemu | ورفع أبويه على العرش وخروا له سجدا وقال يا أبت هذا تأويل رؤياي من قبل قد جعلها ربي حقا وقد أحسن بي إذ أخرجني من السجن وجاء بكم من البدو من بعد أن نزغ الشيطان بيني وبين إخوتي إن ربي لطيف لما يشاء إنه هو العليم الحكيم وَرَفَعَ أَبَوَيْهِ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ وَخَرُّواْ لَهُ سُجَّدًا وَقَالَ يَا أَبَتِ هَـذَا تَأْوِيلُ رُؤْيَايَ مِن قَبْلُ قَدْ جَعَلَهَا رَبِّي حَقًّا وَقَدْ أَحْسَنَ بِي إِذْ أَخْرَجَنِي مِنَ السِّجْنِ وَجَاءَ بِكُم مِّنَ الْبَدْوِ مِن بَعْدِ أَن نَّزَغَ الشَّيْطَانُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ إِخْوَتِي إِنَّ رَبِّي لَطِيفٌ لِّمَا يَشَاءُ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور یوسف (علیہ السلام) نے اپنے والدین کو اوپر تخت پر بٹھا لیا اور وہ (سب) یوسف (علیہ السلام) کے لئے سجدہ میں گر پڑے، اور یوسف (علیہ السلام) نے کہا: اے ابا جان! یہ میرے (اس) خواب کی تعبیر ہے جو (بہت) پہلے آیا تھا (اکثر مفسرین کے نزدیک اسے چالیس سال کا عرصہ گزر گیا تھا) اور بیشک میرے رب نے اسے سچ کر دکھایا ہے، اور بیشک اس نے مجھ پر (بڑا) احسان فرمایا جب مجھے جیل سے نکالا اور آپ سب کو صحرا سے (یہاں) لے آیا اس کے بعد کہ شیطان نے میرے اور میرے بھائیوں کے درمیان فساد پیدا کر دیا تھا، اور بیشک میرا رب جس چیز کو چاہے (اپنی) تدبیر سے آسان فرما دے، بیشک وہی خوب جاننے والا بڑی حکمت والا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And he raised his parents high on the throne (of dignity), and they fell down in prostration, (all) before him. He said: "O my father! this is the fulfilment of my vision of old! Allah hath made it come true! He was indeed good to me when He took me out of prison and brought you (all here) out of the desert, (even) after Satan had sown enmity between me and my brothers. Verily my Lord understandeth best the mysteries of all that He planneth to do, for verily He is full of knowledge and wisdom.

[12:4] | Ith qala yoosufu li-abeehi yaabati innee raaytu ahada AAashara kawkaban waalshshamsawaalqamara raaytuhum lee sajideena | إذ قال يوسف لأبيه يا أبت إني رأيت أحد عشر كوكبا والشمس والقمر رأيتهم لي ساجدين إِذْ قَالَ يُوسُفُ لِأَبِيهِ يَا أَبَتِ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ أَحَدَ عَشَرَ كَوْكَبًا وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ رَأَيْتُهُمْ لِي سَاجِدِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (وہ قصّہ یوں ہے) جب یوسف (علیہ السلام) نے اپنے باپ سے کہا: اے میرے والد گرامی! میں نے (خواب میں) گیارہ ستاروں کو اور سورج اور چاند کو دیکھا ہے، میں نے انہیں اپنے لئے سجدہ کرتے ہوئے دیکھا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Behold! Joseph said to his father: "O my father! I did see eleven stars and the sun and the moon: I saw them prostrate themselves to me!"

[12:5] | Qala ya bunayya la taqsusru/yaka AAala ikhwatika fayakeedoo laka kaydan innaalshshaytana lil-insani AAaduwwun mubeenun | قال يا بني لا تقصص رؤياك على إخوتك فيكيدوا لك كيدا إن الشيطان للإنسان عدو مبين قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ لاَ تَقْصُصْ رُؤْيَاكَ عَلَى إِخْوَتِكَ فَيَكِيدُواْ لَكَ كَيْدًا إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لِلْإِنسَانِ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | انہوں نے کہا: اے میرے بیٹے! اپنا یہ خواب اپنے بھائیوں سے بیان نہ کرنا، ورنہ وہ تمہارے خلاف کوئی پُر فریب چال چلیں گے۔ بیشک شیطان انسان کا کھلا دشمن ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Said (the father): "My (dear) little son! relate not thy vision to thy brothers, lest they concoct a plot against thee: for Satan is to man an avowed enemy!

[12:6] | Wakathalika yajtabeeka rabbukawayuAAallimuka min ta/weeli al-ahadeethi wayutimmuniAAmatahu AAalayka waAAala ali yaAAqooba kamaatammaha AAala abawayka min qablu ibraheemawa-ishaqa inna rabbaka AAaleemun hakeemun | وكذلك يجتبيك ربك ويعلمك من تأويل الأحاديث ويتم نعمته عليك وعلى آل يعقوب كما أتمها على أبويك من قبل إبراهيم وإسحاق إن ربك عليم حكيم وَكَذَلِكَ يَجْتَبِيكَ رَبُّكَ وَيُعَلِّمُكَ مِن تَأْوِيلِ الْأَحَادِيثِ وَيُتِمُّ نِعْمَتَهُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى آلِ يَعْقُوبَ كَمَا أَتَمَّهَا عَلَى أَبَوَيْكَ مِن قَبْلُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَقَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اسی طرح تمہارا رب تمہیں (بزرگی کے لئے) منتخب فرما لے گا اور تمہیں باتوں کے انجام تک پہنچنا (یعنی خوابوں کی تعبیر کا علم) سکھائے گا اور تم پر اور اولادِ یعقوب پر اپنی نعمت تمام فرمائے گا جیسا کہ اس نے اس سے قبل تمہارے دونوں باپ (یعنی پردادا اور دادا) ابراہیم اور اسحاق (علیھما السلام) پر تمام فرمائی تھی۔ بیشک تمہارا رب خوب جاننے والا بڑی حکمت والا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "Thus will thy Lord choose thee and teach thee the interpretation of stories (and events) and perfect His favour to thee and to the posterity of Jacob - even as He perfected it to thy fathers Abraham and Isaac aforetime! for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom."

| 9. [12:7] | Laqad kana fee yoosufa wa-ikhwatihi ayatunlilssa-ileena | لقد كان في يوسف وإخوته آيات للسائلين لَّقَدْ كَانَ فِي يُوسُفَ وَإِخْوَتِهِ آيَاتٌ لِّلسَّائِلِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | بیشک یوسف (علیہ السلام) اور ان کے بھائیوں (کے واقعہ) میں پوچھنے والوں کے لئے (بہت سی) نشانیاں ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Verily in Joseph and his brethren are signs (or symbols) for seekers (after Truth).

[12:8] | Ith qaloo layoosufu waakhoohu ahabbuila abeena minna wanahnu AAusbatuninna abana lafee dalalin mubeenin | إذ قالوا ليوسف وأخوه أحب إلى أبينا منا ونحن عصبة إن أبانا لفي ضلال مبين إِذْ قَالُواْ لَيُوسُفُ وَأَخُوهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَى أَبِينَا مِنَّا وَنَحْنُ عُصْبَةٌ إِنَّ أَبَانَا لَفِي ضَلاَلٍ مُّبِينٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (وہ وقت یاد کیجئے) جب یوسف (علیہ السلام) کے بھائیوں نے کہا کہ واقعی یوسف (علیہ السلام) اور اس کا بھائی ہمارے باپ کو ہم سے زیادہ محبوب ہیں حالانکہ ہم (دس افراد پر مشتمل) زیادہ قوی جماعت ہیں۔ بیشک ہمارے والد (ان کی محبت کی) کھلی وارفتگی میں گم ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | They said: "Truly Joseph and his brother are loved more by our father than we: But we are a goodly body! really our father is obviously wandering (in his mind)!

[12:9] | Oqtuloo yoosufa awi itrahoohuardan yakhlu lakum wajhu abeekum watakoonoo min baAAdihiqawman saliheena | اقتلوا يوسف أو اطرحوه أرضا يخل لكم وجه أبيكم وتكونوا من بعده قوما صالحين اقْتُلُواْ يُوسُفَ أَوِاطْرَحُوهُ أَرْضًا يَخْلُ لَكُمْ وَجْهُ أَبِيكُمْ وَتَكُونُواْ مِن بَعْدِهِ قَوْمًا صَالِحِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (اب یہی حل ہے کہ) تم یوسف (علیہ السلام) کو قتل کر ڈالو یا دور کسی غیر معلوم علاقہ میں پھینک آؤ (اس طرح) تمہارے باپ کی توجہ خالصتًا تمہاری طرف ہو جائے گی اور اس کے بعد تم (توبہ کر کے) صالحین کی جماعت بن جانا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "Slay ye Joseph or cast him out to some (unknown) land, that so the favour of your father may be given to you alone: (there will be time enough) for you to be righteous after that!"

[12:10] | Qala qa-ilun minhum lataqtuloo yoosufa waalqoohu fee ghayabati aljubbi yaltaqithubaAAdu alssayyarati in kuntum faAAileena | قال قائل منهم لا تقتلوا يوسف وألقوه في غيابت الجب يلتقطه بعض السيارة إن كنتم فاعلين قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ لاَ تَقْتُلُواْ يُوسُفَ وَأَلْقُوهُ فِي غَيَابَةِ الْجُبِّ يَلْتَقِطْهُ بَعْضُ السَّيَّارَةِ إِن كُنتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | ان میں سے ایک کہنے والے نے کہا: یوسف (علیہ السلام) کو قتل مت کرو اور اسے کسی تاریک کنویں کی گہرائی میں ڈال دو اسے کوئی راہ گیر مسافر اٹھا لے جائے گا اگر تم (کچھ) کرنے والے ہو (تو یہ کرو) | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Said one of them: "Slay not Joseph, but if ye must do something, throw him down to the bottom of the well: he will be picked up by some caravan of travellers."

| Tahir ul Qadri | انہوں نے کہا: اے ہمارے باپ! آپ کو کیا ہوگیا ہے آپ یوسف (علیہ السلام) کے بارے میں ہم پر اعتبار نہیں کرتے حالانکہ ہم یقینی طور پر اس کے خیر خواہ ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | They said: "O our father! why dost thou not trust us with Joseph,- seeing we are indeed his sincere well-wishers?

| 14. [12:12] | Arsilhu maAAana ghadan yartaAAwayalAAab wa-inna lahu lahafithoona | أرسله معنا غدا يرتع ويلعب وإنا له لحافظون أَرْسِلْهُ مَعَنَا غَدًا يَرْتَعْ وَيَلْعَبْ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | آپ اسے کل ہمارے ساتھ بھیج دیجئے وہ خوب کھائے اور کھیلے اور بیشک ہم اس کے محافظ ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "Send him with us tomorrow to enjoy himself and play, and we shall take every care of him."

[12:13] | Qala innee layahzununee an thathhaboobihi waakhafu an ya/kulahu alththi/buwaantum AAanhu ghafiloona | قال إني ليحزنني أن تذهبوا به وأخاف أن يأكله الذئب وأنتم عنه غافلون قَالَ إِنِّي لَيَحْزُنُنِي أَن تَذْهَبُواْ بِهِ وَأَخَافُ أَن يَأْكُلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَأَنتُمْ عَنْهُ غَافِلُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | انہوں نے کہا: بیشک مجھے یہ خیال مغموم کرتا ہے کہ تم اسے لے جاؤ اور میں (اس خیال سے بھی) خوف زدہ ہوں کہ اسے بھیڑیا کھا جائے اور تم اس (کی حفاظت) سے غافل رہو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | (Jacob) said: "Really it saddens me that ye should take him away: I fear lest the wolf should devour him while ye attend not to him."

| 16. [12:14] | Qaloo la-in akalahu alththi/buwanahnu AAusbatun inna ithan lakhasiroona | قالوا لئن أكله الذئب ونحن عصبة إنا إذا لخاسرون قَالُواْ لَئِنْ أَكَلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَنَحْنُ عُصْبَةٌ إِنَّا إِذًا لَّخَاسِرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | وہ بولے: اگر اسے بھیڑیا کھا جائے حالانکہ ہم ایک قوی جماعت بھی (موجود) ہوں تو ہم تو بالکل ناکارہ ہوئے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | They said: "If the wolf were to devour him while we are (so large) a party, then should we indeed (first) have perished ourselves!"

[12:15] | Falamma thahaboo bihiwaajmaAAoo an yajAAaloohu fee ghayabati aljubbi waawhaynailayhi latunabi-annahum bi-amrihim hatha wahum layashAAuroona | فلما ذهبوا به وأجمعوا أن يجعلوه في غيابت الجب وأوحينا إليه لتنبئنهم بأمرهم هذا وهم لا يشعرون فَلَمَّا ذَهَبُواْ بِهِ وَأَجْمَعُواْ أَن يَجْعَلُوهُ فِي غَيَابَةِ الْجُبِّ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ لَتُنَبِّئَنَّهُم بِأَمْرِهِمْ هَـذَا وَهُمْ لاَ يَشْعُرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر جب وہ اسے لے گئے اور سب اس پر متفق ہوگئے کہ اسے تاریک کنویں کی گہرائی میں ڈال دیں تب ہم نے اس کی طرف وحی بھیجی: (اے یوسف! پریشان نہ ہونا ایک وقت آئے گا) کہ تم یقینًا انہیں ان کا یہ کام جتلاؤ گے اور انہیں (تمہارے بلند رتبہ کا) شعور نہیں ہوگا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | So they did take him away, and they all agreed to throw him down to the bottom of the well: and We put into his heart (this Message): 'Of a surety thou shalt (one day) tell them the truth of this their affair while they know (thee) not'

[12:19] | Wajaat sayyaratun faarsaloo waridahumfaadla dalwahu qala ya bushra hathaghulamun waasarroohu bidaAAatan waAllahuAAaleemun bima yaAAmaloona | وجاءت سيارة فأرسلوا واردهم فأدلى دلوه قال يا بشرى هذا غلام وأسروه بضاعة والله عليم بما يعملون وَجَاءَتْ سَيَّارَةٌ فَأَرْسَلُواْ وَارِدَهُمْ فَأَدْلَى دَلْوَهُ قَالَ يَا بُشْرَى هَـذَا غُلاَمٌ وَأَسَرُّوهُ بِضَاعَةً وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (ادھر) راہ گیروں کا ایک قافلہ آپہنچا تو انہوں نے اپنا پانی بھرنے والا بھیجا سو اس نے اپنا ڈول (اس کنویں میں) لٹکایا، وہ بول اٹھا: خوشخبری ہو یہ ایک لڑکا ہے، اور انہوں نے اسے قیمتی سامانِ تجارت سمجھتے ہوئے چھپا لیا، اور اﷲ ان کاموں کو جو وہ کر رہے تھے خوب جاننے والا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then there came a caravan of travellers: they sent their water-carrier (for water), and he let down his bucket (into the well)...He said: "Ah there! Good news! Here is a (fine) young man!" So they concealed him as a treasure! But Allah knoweth well all that they do!

| Words | |وجاءت - And there came| سيارة - a caravan| فأرسلوا - and they sent| واردهم - their water drawer| فأدلى - then he let down| دلوه - his bucket.| قال - He said,| يا - O| بشرى - "O good news!| هذا - This| غلام - (is) a boy."| وأسروه - And they hid him| بضاعة - (as) a merchandise.| والله - And Allah| عليم - (is) All-Knower| بما - of what| يعملون - they do.| | ||||||

[12:17] | Qaloo ya abanainna thahabna nastabiqu wataraknayoosufa AAinda mataAAina faakalahu alththi/buwama anta bimu/minin lana walaw kunna sadiqeena | قالوا يا أبانا إنا ذهبنا نستبق وتركنا يوسف عند متاعنا فأكله الذئب وما أنت بمؤمن لنا ولو كنا صادقين قَالُواْ يَا أَبَانَا إِنَّا ذَهَبْنَا نَسْتَبِقُ وَتَرَكْنَا يُوسُفَ عِندَ مَتَاعِنَا فَأَكَلَهُ الذِّئْبُ وَمَا أَنتَ بِمُؤْمِنٍ لِّنَا وَلَوْ كُنَّا صَادِقِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | کہنے لگے: اے ہمارے باپ! ہم لوگ دوڑ میں مقابلہ کرنے چلے گئے اور ہم نے یوسف (علیہ السلام) کو اپنے سامان کے پاس چھوڑ دیا تو اسے بھیڑئیے نے کھا لیا، اور آپ (تو) ہماری بات کا یقین (بھی) نہیں کریں گے اگرچہ ہم سچے ہی ہوں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | They said: "O our father! We went racing with one another, and left Joseph with our things; and the wolf devoured him.... But thou wilt never believe us even though we tell the truth."

| 20. [12:20] | Washarawhu bithamanin bakhsin darahimamaAAdoodatin wakanoo feehi mina alzzahideena | وشروه بثمن بخس دراهم معدودة وكانوا فيه من الزاهدين وَشَرَوْهُ بِثَمَنٍ بَخْسٍ دَرَاهِمَ مَعْدُودَةٍ وَكَانُواْ فِيهِ مِنَ الزَّاهِدِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور یوسف (علیہ السلام) کے بھائیوں نے (جو موقع پر آگئے تھے اسے اپنا بھگوڑا غلام کہہ کر انہی کے ہاتھوں) بہت کم قیمت گنتی کے چند درہموں کے عوض بیچ ڈالا کیونکہ وہ راہ گیر اس (یوسف علیہ السلام کے خریدنے) کے بارے میں (پہلے ہی) بے رغبت تھے (پھر راہ گیروں نے اسے مصر لے جا کر بیچ دیا) | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | The (Brethren) sold him for a miserable price, for a few dirhams counted out: in such low estimation did they hold him!

[12:18] | Wajaoo AAala qameesihibidamin kathibin qala bal sawwalat lakum anfusukumamran fasabrun jameelun waAllahu almustaAAanuAAala ma tasifoona | وجاءوا على قميصه بدم كذب قال بل سولت لكم أنفسكم أمرا فصبر جميل والله المستعان على ما تصفون وَجَآؤُوا عَلَى قَمِيصِهِ بِدَمٍ كَذِبٍ قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًا فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ وَاللّهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَى مَا تَصِفُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور وہ اس کے قمیض پر جھوٹا خون (بھی) لگا کر لے آئے، (یعقوب علیہ السلام نے) کہا: (حقیقت یہ نہیں ہے) بلکہ تمہارے (حاسد) نفسوں نے ایک (بہت بڑا) کام تمہارے لئے آسان اور خوشگوار بنا دیا (جو تم نے کر ڈالا)، پس (اس حادثہ پر) صبر ہی بہتر ہے، اور اﷲ ہی سے مدد چاہتا ہوں اس پر جو کچھ تم بیان کر رہے ہو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | They stained his shirt with false blood. He said: "Nay, but your minds have made up a tale (that may pass) with you, (for me) patience is most fitting: Against that which ye assert, it is Allah (alone) Whose help can be sought"..

| 22. [12:22] | Walamma balagha ashuddahu ataynahuhukman waAAilman wakathalika najzee almuhsineena | ولما بلغ أشده آتيناه حكما وعلما وكذلك نجزي المحسنين وَلَمَّا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُ آتَيْنَاهُ حُكْمًا وَعِلْمًا وَكَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جب وہ اپنے کمالِ شباب کو پہنچ گیا (تو) ہم نے اسے حکمِ (نبوت) اور علمِ (تعبیر) عطا فرمایا، اور اسی طرح ہم نیکوکاروں کو صلہ بخشا کرتے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | When Joseph attained His full manhood, We gave him power and knowledge: thus do We reward those who do right.

[12:21] | Waqala allathee ishtarahumin misra liimraatihi akrimee mathwahu AAasaan yanfaAAana aw nattakhithahu waladan wakathalikamakkanna liyoosufa fee al-ardi walinuAAallimahu minta/weeli al-ahadeethi waAllahu ghalibunAAala amrihi walakinna akthara alnnasila yaAAlamoona | وقال الذي اشتراه من مصر لامرأته أكرمي مثواه عسى أن ينفعنا أو نتخذه ولدا وكذلك مكنا ليوسف في الأرض ولنعلمه من تأويل الأحاديث والله غالب على أمره ولكن أكثر الناس لا يعلمون وَقَالَ الَّذِي اشْتَرَاهُ مِن مِّصْرَ لاِمْرَأَتِهِ أَكْرِمِي مَثْوَاهُ عَسَى أَن يَنفَعَنَا أَوْ نَتَّخِذَهُ وَلَدًا وَكَذَلِكَ مَكَّنَّا لِيُوسُفَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلِنُعَلِّمَهُ مِن تَأْوِيلِ الْأَحَادِيثِ وَاللّهُ غَالِبٌ عَلَى أَمْرِهِ وَلَـكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور مصر کے جس شخص نے اسے خریدا تھا (اس کا نام قطفیر تھا اور وہ بادشاہِ مصر ریان بن ولید کا وزیر خزانہ تھا اسے عرف عام میں عزیزِ مصر کہتے تھے) اس نے اپنی بیوی (زلیخا) سے کہا: اسے عزت و اکرام سے ٹھہراؤ! شاید یہ ہمیں نفع پہنچائے یا ہم اسے بیٹا بنا لیں، اور اس طرح ہم نے یوسف (علیہ السلام) کو زمین (مصر) میں استحکام بخشا اور یہ اس لئے کہ ہم اسے باتوں کے انجام تک پہنچنا (یعنی علمِ تعبیرِ رؤیا) سکھائیں، اور اﷲ اپنے کام پر غالب ہے لیکن اکثر لوگ نہیں جانتے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | The man in Egypt who bought him, said to his wife: "Make his stay (among us) honourable: may be he will bring us much good, or we shall adopt him as a son." Thus did We establish Joseph in the land, that We might teach him the interpretation of stories (and events). And Allah hath full power and control over His affairs; but most among mankind know it not.

[12:23] | Warawadat-hu allatee huwa fee baytihaAAan nafsihi waghallaqati al-abwaba waqalat haytalaka qala maAAatha Allahi innahu rabbee ahsanamathwaya innahu la yuflihu alththalimoona | وراودته التي هو في بيتها عن نفسه وغلقت الأبواب وقالت هيت لك قال معاذ الله إنه ربي أحسن مثواي إنه لا يفلح الظالمون وَرَاوَدَتْهُ الَّتِي هُوَ فِي بَيْتِهَا عَن نَّفْسِهِ وَغَلَّقَتِ الْأَبْوَابَ وَقَالَتْ هَيْتَ لَكَ قَالَ مَعَاذَ اللّهِ إِنَّهُ رَبِّي أَحْسَنَ مَثْوَايَ إِنَّهُ لاَ يُفْلِحُ الظَّالِمُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور اس عورت (زلیخا) نے جس کے گھر وہ رہتے تھے آپ سے آپ کی ذات کی شدید خواہش کی اور اس نے دروازے (بھی) بند کر دیئے اور کہنے لگی: جلدی آجاؤ (میں تم سے کہتی ہوں)۔ یوسف (علیہ السلام) نے کہا: اﷲ کی پناہ! بیشک وہ (جو تمہارا شوہر ہے) میرا مربّی ہے اس نے مجھے بڑی عزت سے رکھا ہے۔ بیشک ظالم لوگ فلاح نہیں پائیں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But she in whose house he was, sought to seduce him from his (true) self: she fastened the doors, and said: "Now come, thou (dear one)!" He said: "Allah forbid! truly (thy husband) is my lord! he made my sojourn agreeable! truly to no good come those who do wrong!"

| 25. [12:27] | Wa-in kana qameesuhu qudda minduburin fakathabat wahuwa mina alssadiqeena | وإن كان قميصه قد من دبر فكذبت وهو من الصادقين وَإِنْ كَانَ قَمِيصُهُ قُدَّ مِن دُبُرٍ فَكَذَبَتْ وَهُوَ مِن الصَّادِقِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور اگر اس کا قمیض پیچھے سے پھٹا ہوا ہے تو یہ جھوٹی ہے اور وہ سچوں میں سے ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "But if it be that his shirt is torn from the back, then is she the liar, and he is telling the truth!"

[12:24] | Walaqad hammat bihi wahamma biha lawlaan raa burhana rabbihi kathalika linasrifaAAanhu alssoo-a waalfahshaa innahumin AAibadina almukhlaseena | ولقد همت به وهم بها لولا أن رأى برهان ربه كذلك لنصرف عنه السوء والفحشاء إنه من عبادنا المخلصين وَلَقَدْ هَمَّتْ بِهِ وَهَمَّ بِهَا لَوْلاَ أَن رَّأَى بُرْهَانَ رَبِّهِ كَذَلِكَ لِنَصْرِفَ عَنْهُ السُّوءَ وَالْفَحْشَاءَ إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُخْلَصِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (یوسف علیہ السلام نے انکار کر دیا) اور بیشک اس (زلیخا) نے (تو) ان کا ارادہ کر (ہی) لیا تھا، (شاید) وہ بھی اس کا قصد کر لیتے اگر انہوں نے اپنے رب کی روشن دلیل کو نہ دیکھا ہوتا۔٭ اس طرح (اس لئے کیا گیا) کہ ہم ان سے تکلیف اور بے حیائی (دونوں) کو دور رکھیں، بیشک وہ ہمارے چنے ہوئے (برگزیدہ) بندوں میں سے تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And (with passion) did she desire him, and he would have desired her, but that he saw the evidence of his Lord: thus (did We order) that We might turn away from him (all) evil and shameful deeds: for he was one of Our servants, sincere and purified.

| 27. [12:28] | Falamma raa qameesahuqudda min duburin qala innahu min kaydikunna innakaydakunna AAatheemun | فلما رأى قميصه قد من دبر قال إنه من كيدكن إن كيدكن عظيم فَلَمَّا رَأَى قَمِيصَهُ قُدَّ مِن دُبُرٍ قَالَ إِنَّهُ مِن كَيْدِكُنَّ إِنَّ كَيْدَكُنَّ عَظِيمٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر جب اس (عزیزِ مصر) نے ان کا قمیض دیکھا (کہ) وہ پیچھے سے پھٹا ہوا تھا تو اس نے کہا: بیشک یہ تم عورتوں کا فریب ہے۔ یقیناً تم عورتوں کا فریب بڑا (خطرناک) ہوتا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | So when he saw his shirt,- that it was torn at the back,- (her husband) said: "Behold! It is a snare of you women! truly, mighty is your snare!

[12:25] | Waistabaqa albabawaqaddat qameesahu min duburin waalfaya sayyidahalada albabi qalat ma jazao manarada bi-ahlika soo-an illa an yusjana aw AAathabunaleemun | واستبقا الباب وقدت قميصه من دبر وألفيا سيدها لدى الباب قالت ما جزاء من أراد بأهلك سوءا إلا أن يسجن أو عذاب أليم وَاسْتَبَقَا الْبَابَ وَقَدَّتْ قَمِيصَهُ مِن دُبُرٍ وَأَلْفَيَا سَيِّدَهَا لَدَى الْبَابِ قَالَتْ مَا جَزَاءُ مَنْ أَرَادَ بِأَهْلِكَ سُوءًا إِلاَّ أَن يُسْجَنَ أَوْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور دونوں دروازے کی طرف (آگے پیچھے) دوڑے اور اس (زلیخا) نے ان کا قمیض پیچھے سے پھاڑ ڈالا اور دونوں نے اس کے خاوند (عزیزِ مصر) کو دروازے کے قریب پا لیا وہ (فورًا) بول اٹھی کہ اس شخص کی سزا جو تمہاری بیوی کے ساتھ برائی کا ارادہ کرے اور کیا ہو سکتی ہے سوائے اس کے کہ وہ قید کر دیا جائے یا (اسے) درد ناک عذاب (دیا جائے) | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | So they both raced each other to the door, and she tore his shirt from the back: they both found her lord near the door. She said: "What is the (fitting) punishment for one who formed an evil design against thy wife, but prison or a grievous chastisement?"

| 29. [12:29] | Yoosufu aAArid AAan hatha waistaghfireelithanbiki innaki kunti mina alkhati-eena | يوسف أعرض عن هذا واستغفري لذنبك إنك كنت من الخاطئين يُوسُفُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَـذَا وَاسْتَغْفِرِي لِذَنبِكِ إِنَّكِ كُنتِ مِنَ الْخَاطِئِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اے یوسف! تم اس بات سے درگزر کرو اور (اے زلیخا!) تو اپنے گناہ کی معافی مانگ، بیشک تو ہی خطاکاروں میں سے تھی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "O Joseph, pass this over! (O wife), ask forgiveness for thy sin, for truly thou hast been at fault!"

[12:26] | Qala hiya rawadatnee AAannafsee washahida shahidun min ahliha in kanaqameesuhu qudda min qubulin fasadaqat wahuwa minaalkathibeena | قال هي راودتني عن نفسي وشهد شاهد من أهلها إن كان قميصه قد من قبل فصدقت وهو من الكاذبين قَالَ هِيَ رَاوَدَتْنِي عَن نَّفْسِي وَشَهِدَ شَاهِدٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِهَا إِن كَانَ قَمِيصُهُ قُدَّ مِن قُبُلٍ فَصَدَقَتْ وَهُوَ مِنَ الكَاذِبِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | یوسف (علیہ السلام) نے کہا: (نہیں بلکہ) اس نے خود مجھ سے مطلب براری کے لئے مجھے پھسلانا چاہا اور (اتنے میں خود) اس کے گھر والوں میں سے ایک گواہ نے (جو شیر خوار بچہ تھا) گواہی دی کہ اگر اس کا قمیض آگے سے پھٹا ہوا ہے تو یہ سچی ہے اور وہ جھوٹوں میں سے ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | He said: "It was she that sought to seduce me - from my (true) self." And one of her household saw (this) and bore witness, (thus):- "If it be that his shirt is rent from the front, then is her tale true, and he is a liar!
