Wa-ith yaAAidukumu Allahu ihdaaltta-ifatayni annaha lakum watawaddoonaanna ghayra thati alshshawkati takoonu lakumwayureedu Allahu an yuhiqqa alhaqqa bikalimatihiwayaqtaAAa dabira alkafireena وإذ يعدكم الله إحدى الطائفتين أنها لكم وتودون أن غير ذات الشوكة تكون لكم ويريد الله أن يحق الحق بكلماته ويقطع دابر الكافرين
وَإِذْ يَعِدُكُمُ اللّهُ إِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ أَنَّهَا لَكُمْ وَتَوَدُّونَ أَنَّ غَيْرَ ذَاتِ الشَّوْكَةِ تَكُونُ لَكُمْ وَيُرِيدُ اللّهُ أَن يُحِقَّ الْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَاتِهِ وَيَقْطَعَ دَابِرَ الْكَافِرِينَ

  اور (وہ وقت یاد کرو) جب اللہ نے تم سے (کفارِ مکہ کے) دو گروہوں میں سے ایک پر غلبہ و فتح کا وعدہ فرمایا تھا کہ وہ یقیناً تمہارے لئے ہے اور تم یہ چاہتے تھے کہ غیر مسلح (کمزور گروہ) تمہارے ہاتھ آجائے اور اللہ یہ چاہتا تھا کہ اپنے کلام سے حق کو حق ثابت فرما دے اور (دشمنوں کے بڑے مسلح لشکر پر مسلمانوں کی فتح یابی کی صورت میں) کافروں کی (قوت اور شان و شوکت کے) جڑ کاٹ دے

Yousuf AliBehold! Allah promised you one of the two (enemy) parties, that it should be yours: Ye wished that the one unarmed should be yours, but Allah willed to justify the Truth according to His words and to cut off the roots of the Unbelievers;-

Ahmed Aliاور جس وقت دو جماعتوں میں سے ایک کا الله تم سے وعدہ کرتا تھا کہ وہ تمہارے ہاتھ لگے گی اور تم چاہتے تھے جس میں کانٹا نہ ہو وہ تمہیں ملے اور الله چاہتا تھا کہ اپنے حکم سے حق کو ثابت کردے اور کافروں کی جڑ کاٹ دے
Ahmed Raza Khanاور یاد کرو جب اللہ نے تمہیں وعدہ دیا تھا کہ ان دونوں گروہوں میں ایک تمہارے لیے ہے اور تم یہ چاہتے تھے کہ تمہیں وہ ملے جس میں کانٹے کا کھٹکا نہیں (کوئی نقصان نہ ہو) اور اللہ یہ چاہتا تھا کہ اپنے کلام سے سچ کو سچ کر دکھائے اور کافروں کی جڑ کا ٹ دے
Shabbir Ahmed اور (یاد کرو) جب وعدہ کررہا تھا تم سے اللہ ایک کا دو گروہوں میں سے کہ وہ تمہیں مِل جائے گا اور تم یہ چاہتے تھے کہ کمزور گروہ مِل جائے تمہیں اور ارادہ تھا اللہ کا یہ کہ ثابت کردکھائے حق کو اپنے ارشادات سے اور کاٹ دے جڑ کافروں کی۔
Fateh Muhammad Jalandharyاور (اس وقت کو یاد کرو) جب خدا تم سے وعدہ کرتا تھا کہ (ابوسفیان اور ابوجہل کے) دو گروہوں میں سے ایک گروہ تمہارا (مسخر) ہوجائے گا۔ اور تم چاہتے تھے کہ جو قافلہ بے (شان و) شوکت (یعنی بے ہتھیار ہے) وہ تمہارے ہاتھ آجائے اور خدا چاہتا تھا کہ اپنے فرمان سے حق کو قائم رکھے اور کافروں کی جڑ کاٹ کر (پھینک) دے
Mehmood Al Hassanاور جس وقت تم سے وعدہ کرتا تھا اللہ دو جماعتوں میں سے ایک کا کہ وہ تمہارے ہاتھ لگے گی اور تم چاہتے تھے کہ جس میں کانٹا نہ لگے وہ تم کو ملے اور اللہ چاہتا تھا کہ سچا کر دے سچ کو اپنے کلاموں سے اور کاٹ ڈالے جڑ کافروں کی
Abul Ala Maududiیاد کرو وہ موقع جب کہ اللہ تم سے وعدہ کر رہا تھا کہ دونوں گروہوں میں سے ایک تمہیں مِل جائے گا تم چاہتے تھے کہ کمزور گروہ تمہیں ملے مگر اللہ کا ارادہ یہ تھا کہ اپنے ارشادات سے حق کو حق کر دکھائے اور کافروں کی جڑ کاٹ دے

LiteralAnd if/when God promises you one/any (of) the two groups that it (E) (is) for you, and you wish/love that other than that what is the power and might/weapon's sharpness be for you, and God wants/wills that (He) makes correct the truth with His words/expressions and cuts off/severs the disbelievers' root/remainder.

SarwarWhen God promised to grant you (believers) victory over either one of the two groups, you wished to have control over the unarmed one. God decided to prove (to you) the truth of His promises and to destroy the unbelievers
H/K/Saheeh[Remember, O believers], when Allah promised you one of the two groups that it would be yours and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allah intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers

Khalifa**Recall that GOD promised you victory over a certain group, but you still wanted to face the weaker group. It was GOD's plan to establish the truth with His words, and to defeat the disbelievers.
Hilali/Khan**And (remember) when Allah promised you (Muslims) one of the two parties (of the enemy i.e. either the army or the caravan) that it should be yours, you wished that the one not armed (the caravan) should be yours, but Allah willed to justify the truth by His Words and to cut off the roots of the disbelievers (i.e. in the battle of Badr).
QXP Shabbir Ahemd**Allah promised you engagement and victory against one of the two groups. You preferred to face the weaker group, but Allah willed the Truth to prevail according to His Words and soundly defeat the aggressive disbelievers.
