| Yousuf Ali | And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is?

| 4. [69:4] | Kaththabat thamoodu waAAadun bialqariAAati | كذبت ثمود وعاد بالقارعة كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌ بِالْقَارِعَةِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | ثمود اور عاد نے (جملہ موجودات کو) باہمی ٹکراؤ سے پاش پاش کر دینے والی (قیامت) کو جھٹلایا تھا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | The Thamud and the 'Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning Calamity!

| Words | |كذبت - Denied| ثمود - Thamud| وعاد - and Aad| بالقارعة - the Striking Calamity.| | ||||||
| 5. [69:5] | Faamma thamoodu faohlikoo bialttaghiyati | فأما ثمود فأهلكوا بالطاغية فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِالطَّاغِيَةِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پس قومِ ثمود کے لوگ! تو وہ حد سے زیادہ کڑک دار چنگھاڑ والی آواز سے ہلاک کر دئیے گئے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning!

| Words | |فأما - So as for| ثمود - Thamud,| فأهلكوا - they were destroyed| بالطاغية - by the overpowering (blast).| | ||||||
| 6. [69:6] | Waamma AAadun faohlikoo bireehinsarsarin AAatiyatin | وأما عاد فأهلكوا بريح صرصر عاتية وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور رہے قومِ عاد کے لوگ! تو وہ (بھی) ایسی تیز آندھی سے ہلاک کر دئیے گئے جو انتہائی سرد نہایت گرج دار تھی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent;

| Words | |وأما - And as for| عاد - Aad,| فأهلكوا - they were destroyed| بريح - by a wind| صرصر - screaming| عاتية - violent,| | ||||||

[69:7] | Sakhkharaha AAalayhim sabAAa layalinwathamaniyata ayyamin husooman fataraalqawma feeha sarAAa kaannahum aAAjazunakhlin khawiyatun | سخرها عليهم سبع ليال وثمانية أيام حسوما فترى القوم فيها صرعى كأنهم أعجاز نخل خاوية سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَانِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى الْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَى كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اللہ نے اس (آندھی) کو ان پر مسلسل سات راتیں اور آٹھ دن مسلّط رکھا، سو تُو ان لوگوں کو اس (عرصہ) میں (اس طرح) مرے پڑے دیکھتا (تو یوں لگتا) گویا وہ کھجور کے گرے ہوئے درختوں کی کھوکھلی جڑیں ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down!

| Words | |سخرها - Which He imposed| عليهم - upon them| سبع - (for) seven| ليال - nights| وثمانية - and eight| أيام - days| حسوما - (in) succession,| فترى - so you would see| القوم - the people| فيها - therein| صرعى - fallen| كأنهم - as if they were| أعجاز - trunks| نخل - (of) date-palms| خاوية - hollow.| | ||||||
| 8. [69:15] | Fayawma-ithin waqaAAati alwaqiAAatu | فيومئذ وقعت الواقعة فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | سو اُس وقت واقع ہونے والی (قیامت) برپا ہو جائے گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | On that Day shall the (Great) Event come to pass.

| Words | |فيومئذ - Then (on) that Day| وقعت - will occur| الواقعة - the Occurrence,| | ||||||
| 9. [69:8] | Fahal tara lahum min baqiyatin | فهل ترى لهم من باقية فَهَلْ تَرَى لَهُم مِّن بَاقِيَةٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | سو تُو کیا ان میں سے کسی کو باقی دیکھتا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then seest thou any of them left surviving?
| ||||||
| Words | |فهل - Then do| ترى - you see| لهم - of them| من - any| باقية - remains?| | ||||||
| 10. [69:9] | Wajaa firAAawnu waman qablahu waalmu/tafikatubialkhati-ati | وجاء فرعون ومن قبله والمؤتفكات بالخاطئة وَجَاءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُ وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَاتُ بِالْخَاطِئَةِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور فرعون اور جو اُس سے پہلے تھے اور (قومِ لوط کی) اُلٹی ہوئی بستیوں (کے باشندوں) نے بڑی خطائیں کی تھیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin.

| Words | |وجاء - And came| فرعون - Firaun,| ومن - and (those)| قبله - before him,| والمؤتفكات - and the overturned cities| بالخاطئة - with sin.| | ||||||
| 11. [69:10] | FaAAasaw rasoola rabbihim faakhathahumakhthatan rabiyatan | فعصوا رسول ربهم فأخذهم أخذة رابية فَعَصَوْا رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پس انہوں نے (بھی) اپنے رب کے رسول کی نافرمانی کی، سو اللہ نے انہیں نہایت سخت گرفت میں پکڑ لیا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And disobeyed (each) the messenger of their Lord; so He punished them with an abundant Penalty.

| Words | |فعصوا - And they disobeyed| رسول - (the) Messenger| ربهم - (of) their Lord,| فأخذهم - so He seized them| أخذة - (with) a seizure| رابية - exceeding.| | ||||||
| 12. [69:11] | Inna lamma taghaalmao hamalnakum fee aljariyati | إنا لما طغى الماء حملناكم في الجارية إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَى الْمَاءُ حَمَلْنَاكُمْ فِي الْجَارِيَةِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | بے شک جب (طوفانِ نوح کا) پانی حد سے گزر گیا تو ہم نے تمہیں رواں کشتی میں سوار کر لیا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | We, when the water (of Noah's Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark),

| Words | |إنا - Indeed, We| لما - when| طغى - overflowed| الماء - the water,| حملناكم - We carried you| في - in| الجارية - the sailing (ship).| | ||||||
| 13. [69:12] | LinajAAalaha lakum tathkiratanwataAAiyaha othunun waAAiyatun | لنجعلها لكم تذكرة وتعيها أذن واعية لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَا أُذُنٌ وَاعِيَةٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | تاکہ ہم اس (واقعہ) کو تمہارے لئے (یادگار) نصیحت بنا دیں اور محفوظ رکھنے والے کان اسے یاد رکھیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance.

| Words | |لنجعلها - That We might make it| لكم - for you| تذكرة - a reminder| وتعيها - and would be conscious of it| أذن - an ear| واعية - conscious.| | ||||||
| 14. [69:21] | Fahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiyatin | فهو في عيشة راضية فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | سو وہ پسندیدہ زندگی بسر کرے گا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And he will be in a life of Bliss,
| ||||||
| Words | |فهو - So he| في - (will be) in| عيشة - a life| راضية - pleasant,| | ||||||
| 15. [69:22] | Fee jannatin AAaliyatin | في جنة عالية فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | بلند و بالا جنت میں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | In a Garden on high,
| ||||||
| Words | |في - In| جنة - a Garden| عالية - elevated,| | ||||||
| 16. [69:23] | Qutoofuha daniyatun | قطوفها دانية قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | جس کے خوشے (پھلوں کی کثرت کے باعث) جھکے ہوئے ہوں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near.
| ||||||
| Words | |قطوفها - Its clusters of fruits| دانية - hanging near.| | ||||||
| 17. [69:13] | Fa-itha nufikha fee alssoorinafkhatun wahidatun | فإذا نفخ في الصور نفخة واحدة فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر جب صور میں ایک مرتبہ پھونک ماری جائے گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then, when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet,
| ||||||
| Words | |فإذا - Then when| نفخ - is blown| في - in| الصور - the trumpet -| نفخة - a blast| واحدة - single,| | ||||||
| 18. [69:14] | Wahumilati al-ardu waaljibalufadukkata dakkatan wahidatan | وحملت الأرض والجبال فدكتا دكة واحدة وَحُمِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَاحِدَةً | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور زمین اور پہاڑ (اپنی جگہوں سے) اٹھا لئے جائیں گے، پھر وہ ایک ہی بار ٹکرا کر ریزہ ریزہ کر دیے جائیں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,-
| ||||||
| Words | |وحملت - And are lifted| الأرض - the earth| والجبال - and the mountains| فدكتا - and crushed| دكة - (with) a crushing| واحدة - single.| | ||||||
| 19. [69:16] | Wainshaqqati alssamaofahiya yawma-ithin wahiyatun | وانشقت السماء فهي يومئذ واهية وَانشَقَّتِ السَّمَاءُ فَهِيَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (سب) آسمانی کرّے پھٹ جائیں گے اور یہ کائنات (ایک نظام میں مربوط اور حرکت میں رکھنے والی) قوت کے ذریعے (سیاہ) شگافوں٭ پر مشتمل ہو جائے گی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy,
| ||||||
| Words | |وانشقت - And will split| السماء - the heaven,| فهي - so it| يومئذ - (is on) that Day| واهية - frail.| | ||||||
| 20. [69:17] | Waalmalaku AAala arja-ihawayahmilu AAarsha rabbika fawqahum yawma-ithin thamaniyatun | والملك على أرجائها ويحمل عرش ربك فوقهم يومئذ ثمانية وَالْمَلَكُ عَلَى أَرْجَائِهَا وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَانِيَةٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور فرشتے اس کے کناروں پر کھڑے ہوں گے، اور آپ کے رب کے عرش کو اس دن ان کے اوپر آٹھ (فرشتے یا فرشتوں کے طبقات) اٹھائے ہوئے ہوں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them.
| ||||||
| Words | |والملك - And the Angels| على - (will be) on| أرجائها - its edges,| ويحمل - and will bear| عرش - (the) Throne| ربك - (of) your Lord| فوقهم - above them,| يومئذ - that Day,| ثمانية - eight.| | ||||||
| 21. [69:26] | Walam adri ma hisabiyah | ولم أدر ما حسابيه وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور میں نہ جانتا کہ میرا حساب کیا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "And that I had never realised how my account (stood)!
| ||||||
| Words | |ولم - And not| أدر - I had known| ما - what| حسابيه - (is) my account.| | ||||||
| 22. [69:27] | Ya laytaha kanati alqadiyatu | يا ليتها كانت القاضية يَا لَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | ہائے کاش! وُہی (موت) کام تمام کر چکی ہوتی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me!
| ||||||
| Words | |يا - O| ليتها - O! I wish it| كانت - had been| القاضية - the end| | ||||||
| 23. [69:28] | Ma aghna AAannee maliyah | ما أغنى عني ماليه مَا أَغْنَى عَنِّي مَالِيَهْ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (آج) میرا مال مجھ سے (عذاب کو) کچھ بھی دور نہ کر سکا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "Of no profit to me has been my wealth!
| ||||||
| Words | |ما - Not| أغنى - has availed| عني - me| ماليه - my wealth,| | ||||||
| 24. [69:29] | Halaka AAannee sultaniyah | هلك عني سلطانيه هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَانِيَهْ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | مجھ سے میری قوت و سلطنت (بھی) جاتی رہی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "My power has perished from me!"...

| 25. [69:18] | Yawma-ithin tuAAradoona latakhfa minkum khafiyatun | يومئذ تعرضون لا تخفى منكم خافية يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَى مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اُس دن تم (حساب کے لئے) پیش کیے جاؤ گے، تمہاری کوئی پوشیدہ بات چھپی نہ رہے گی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | That Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours that ye hide will be hidden.

| Words | |يومئذ - That Day,| تعرضون - you will be exhibited,| لا - not| تخفى - will be hidden| منكم - among you| خافية - any secret.| | ||||||
| 26. [69:19] | Faamma man ootiya kitabahubiyameenihi fayaqoolu haomu iqraoo kitabiyah | فأما من أوتي كتابه بيمينه فيقول هاؤم اقرءوا كتابيه فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ فَيَقُولُ هَاؤُمُ اقْرَؤُوا كِتَابِيَهْ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | سو وہ شخص جس کا نامۂ اَعمال اس کے دائیں ہاتھ میں دیا جائے گا تو وہ (خوشی سے) کہے گا: آؤ میرا نامۂ اَعمال پڑھ لو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record!

| Words | |فأما - Then as for| من - (him) who| أوتي - is given| كتابه - his record| بيمينه - in his right hand| فيقول - will say,| هاؤم - "Here,| اقرءوا - read| كتابيه - my record!| | ||||||
| 27. [69:20] | Innee thanantu annee mulaqinhisabiyah | إني ظننت أني ملاق حسابيه إِنِّي ظَنَنتُ أَنِّي مُلَاقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | میں تو یقین رکھتا تھا کہ میں اپنے حساب کو (آسان) پانے والا ہوں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "I did really understand that my Account would (One Day) reach me!"
| ||||||
| Words | |إني - Indeed, I| ظننت - was certain| أني - that I| ملاق - (will) meet| حسابيه - my account."| | ||||||
| 28. [69:24] | Kuloo waishraboo hanee-an bimaaslaftum fee al-ayyami alkhaliyati | كلوا واشربوا هنيئا بما أسلفتم في الأيام الخالية كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِي الْأَيَّامِ الْخَالِيَةِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (اُن سے کہا جائے گا:) خوب لطف اندوزی کے ساتھ کھاؤ اور پیو اُن (اَعمال) کے بدلے جو تم گزشتہ (زندگی کے) اَیام میں آگے بھیج چکے تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "Eat ye and drink ye, with full satisfaction; because of the (good) that ye sent before you, in the days that are gone!"

| Words | |كلوا - "Eat| واشربوا - and drink| هنيئا - (in) satisfaction| بما - for what| أسلفتم - you sent before you| في - in| الأيام - the days| الخالية - past."| | ||||||
| 29. [69:30] | Khuthoohu faghulloohu | خذوه فغلوه خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (حکم ہوگا:) اسے پکڑ لو اور اسے طوق پہنا دو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | (The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him,

| 30. [69:31] | Thumma aljaheema salloohu | ثم الجحيم صلوه ثُمَّ الْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر اسے دوزخ میں جھونک دو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire.
