| بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ |
| 1. [68:1] | Noon waalqalami wama yasturoona |  ن والقلم وما يسطرونن وَالْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ | |||||

| Tahir ul Qadri | نون (حقیقی معنی اللہ اور رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ہی بہتر جانتے ہیں)، قلم کی قَسم اور اُس (مضمون) کی قَسم جو (فرشتے) لکھتے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Nun. By the Pen and the (Record) which (men) write,-

| Words | |ن - Nun.| والقلم - By the pen| وما - and what| يسطرون - they write,| | ||||||
| 2. [68:2] | Ma anta biniAAmati rabbika bimajnoonin | ما أنت بنعمة ربك بمجنون مَا أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (اے حبیبِ مکرّم!) آپ اپنے رب کے فضل سے (ہرگز) دیوانے نہیں ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Thou art not, by the Grace of thy Lord, mad or possessed.
| ||||||
| Words | |ما - Not| أنت - you (are),| بنعمة - by (the) Grace| ربك - (of) your Lord,| بمجنون - a madman.| | ||||||
| 3. [68:3] | Wa-inna laka laajran ghayra mamnoonin | وإن لك لأجرا غير ممنون وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور بے شک آپ کے لئے ایسا اَجر ہے جو کبھی ختم نہ ہوگا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Nay, verily for thee is a Reward unfailing:
| ||||||
| Words | |وإن - And indeed,| لك - for you| لأجرا - surely (is) a reward| غير - without| ممنون - end.| | ||||||
| 4. [68:4] | Wa-innaka laAAala khuluqin AAatheemin | وإنك لعلى خلق عظيم وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلى خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور بے شک آپ عظیم الشان خلق پر قائم ہیں (یعنی آدابِ قرآنی سے مزّین اور اَخلاقِ اِلٰہیہ سے متّصف ہیں) | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character.
| ||||||
| Words | |وإنك - And indeed, you| لعلى - surely (are)| خلق - (of) a moral character| عظيم - great.| | ||||||
| 5. [68:5] | Fasatubsiru wayubsiroona | فستبصر ويبصرون فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پس عنقریب آپ (بھی) دیکھ لیں گے اور وہ (بھی) دیکھ لیں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Soon wilt thou see, and they will see,
| ||||||
| Words | |فستبصر - So you will see| ويبصرون - and they will see,| | ||||||
| 6. [68:6] | Bi-ayyikumu almaftoonu | بأييكم المفتون بِأَيـيِّكُمُ الْمَفْتُونُ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | کہ تم میں سے کون دیوانہ ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Which of you is afflicted with madness.
| ||||||
| Words | |بأييكم - Which of you| المفتون - (is) the afflicted one.| | ||||||
| 7. [68:7] | Inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dallaAAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bialmuhtadeena | إن ربك هو أعلم بمن ضل عن سبيله وهو أعلم بالمهتدين إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | بے شک آپ کا رب اس شخص کو (بھی) خوب جانتا ہے جو اس کی راہ سے بھٹک گیا ہے، اور وہ ان کو (بھی) خوب جانتا ہے جو ہدایت یافتہ ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Verily it is thy Lord that knoweth best, which (among men) hath strayed from His Path: and He knoweth best those who receive (true) Guidance.

| Words | |إن - Indeed,| ربك - your Lord,| هو - He| أعلم - (is) most knowing| بمن - of (he) who| ضل - has strayed| عن - from| سبيله - His way,| وهو - and He| أعلم - (is) most knowing| بالمهتدين - of the guided ones.| | ||||||
| 8. [68:8] | Fala tutiAAi almukaththibeena | فلا تطع المكذبين فَلَا تُطِعِ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | سو آپ جھٹلانے والوں کی بات نہ مانیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | So hearken not to those who deny (the Truth).
| ||||||
| Words | |فلا - So (do) not| تطع - obey| المكذبين - the deniers.| | ||||||
| 9. [68:9] | Waddoo law tudhinu fayudhinoona | ودوا لو تدهن فيدهنون وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | وہ تو چاہتے ہیں کہ (دین کے معاملے میں) آپ (بے جا) نرمی اِختیار کر لیں تو وہ بھی نرم پڑ جائیں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Their desire is that thou shouldst be pliant: so would they be pliant.

| Words | |ودوا - They wish| لو - that| تدهن - you should compromise,| فيدهنون - so they would compromise.| | ||||||
| 10. [68:10] | Wala tutiAA kulla hallafinmaheenin | ولا تطع كل حلاف مهين وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور آپ کسی ایسے شخص کی بات نہ مانیں جو بہت قَسمیں کھانے والا اِنتہائی ذلیل ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Heed not the type of despicable men,- ready with oaths,
| ||||||
| Words | |ولا - And (do) not| تطع - obey| كل - every| حلاف - habitual swearer| مهين - worthless,| | ||||||
| 11. [68:11] | Hammazin mashsha-in binameemin | هماز مشاء بنميم هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّاءٍ بِنَمِيمٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (جو) طعنہ زَن، عیب جُو (ہے اور) لوگوں میں فساد انگیزی کے لئے چغل خوری کرتا پھرتا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | A slanderer, going about with calumnies,
| ||||||
| Words | |هماز - Defamer| مشاء - going about| بنميم - with malicious gossip,| | ||||||
| 12. [68:12] | MannaAAin lilkhayri muAAtadin atheemin | مناع للخير معتد أثيم مَنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (جو) بھلائی کے کام سے بہت روکنے والا بخیل، حد سے بڑھنے والا سرکش (اور) سخت گنہگار ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | (Habitually) hindering (all) good, transgressing beyond bounds, deep in sin,

| Words | |مناع - A preventer,| للخير - of (the) good,| معتد - transgressor,| أثيم - sinful,| | ||||||
| 13. [68:13] | AAutullin baAAda thalika zaneemin | عتل بعد ذلك زنيم عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ زَنِيمٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (جو) بد مزاج درُشت خو ہے، مزید برآں بد اَصل (بھی) ہے٭ | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Violent (and cruel),- with all that, base-born,-
| ||||||
| Words | |عتل - Cruel,| بعد - after| ذلك - (all) that| زنيم - utterly useless.| | ||||||
| 14. [68:14] | An kana tha malinwabaneena | أن كان ذا مال وبنين أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اِس لئے (اس کی بات کو اہمیت نہ دیں) کہ وہ مال دار اور صاحبِ اَولاد ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Because he possesses wealth and (numerous) sons.
| ||||||
| Words | |أن - Because| كان - (he) is| ذا - a possessor| مال - (of) wealth| وبنين - and children,| | ||||||
| 15. [68:15] | Itha tutla AAalayhi ayatunaqala asateeru al-awwaleena | إذا تتلى عليه آياتنا قال أساطير الأولين إِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | جب اس پر ہماری آیتیں تلاوت کی جائیں (تو) کہتا ہے: یہ (تو) پہلے لوگوں کے اَفسانے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | When to him are rehearsed Our Signs, "Tales of the ancients", he cries!

| Words | |إذا - When| تتلى - are recited| عليه - to him| آياتنا - Our Verses,| قال - he says,| أساطير - "Stories| الأولين - (of) the former (people)."| | ||||||
| 16. [68:16] | Sanasimuhu AAala alkhurtoomi | سنسمه على الخرطوم سَنَسِمُهُ عَلَى الْخُرْطُومِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اب ہم اس کی سونڈ جیسی ناک پر داغ لگا دیں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Soon shall We brand (the beast) on the snout!
| ||||||
| Words | |سنسمه - We will brand him| على - on| الخرطوم - the snout.| | ||||||
| 17. [68:17] | Inna balawnahum kamabalawna as-haba aljannati ith aqsamoolayasrimunnaha musbiheena | إنا بلوناهم كما بلونا أصحاب الجنة إذ أقسموا ليصرمنها مصبحين إِنَّا بَلَوْنَاهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَا أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | بے شک ہم ان (اہلِ مکہ) کی (اُسی طرح) آزمائش کریں گے جس طرح ہم نے (یمن کے) ان باغ والوں کو آزمایا تھا جب انہوں نے قَسم کھائی تھی کہ ہم صبح سویرے یقیناً اس کے پھل توڑ لیں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning.

| Words | |إنا - Indeed, We| بلوناهم - have tried them| كما - as| بلونا - We tried| أصحاب - (the) companions| الجنة - (of) the garden,| إذ - when| أقسموا - they swore| ليصرمنها - to pluck its fruit| مصبحين - (in the) morning,| | ||||||
| 18. [68:18] | Wala yastathnoona | ولا يستثنون وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور انہوں نے (اِن شاء اللہ کہہ کر یا غریبوں کے حصہ کا) اِستثناء نہ کیا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But made no reservation, ("If it be Allah's Will").
| ||||||
| Words | |ولا - And not| يستثنون - making exception.| | ||||||
| 19. [68:19] | Fatafa AAalayha ta-ifunmin rabbika wahum na-imoona | فطاف عليها طائف من ربك وهم نائمون فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَائِفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَائِمُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پس آپ کے رب کی جانب سے ایک پھرنے والا (عذاب رات ہی رات میں) اس (باغ) پر پھر گیا اور وہ سوتے ہی رہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then there came on the (garden) a visitation from thy Lord, (which swept away) all around, while they were asleep.
| ||||||
| Words | |فطاف - So there came| عليها - upon it| طائف - a visitation| من - from| ربك - your Lord,| وهم - while they| نائمون - were asleep.| | ||||||
| 20. [68:20] | Faasbahat kaalssareemi | فأصبحت كالصريم فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَالصَّرِيمِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | سو وہ (لہلہاتا پھلوں سے لدا ہوا باغ) صبح کو کٹی ہوئی کھیتی کی طرح ہوگیا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | So the (garden) became, by the morning, like a dark and desolate spot, (whose fruit had been gathered).

| Words | |فأصبحت - So it became| كالصريم - as if reaped.| | ||||||
| 21. [68:21] | Fatanadaw musbiheena | فتنادوا مصبحين فَتَنَادَوا مُصْبِحِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر صبح ہوتے ہی وہ ایک دوسرے کو پکارنے لگے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | As the morning broke, they called out, one to another,-
| ||||||
| Words | |فتنادوا - And they called one another| مصبحين - (at) morning,| | ||||||
| 22. [68:22] | Ani ighdoo AAala harthikum inkuntum sarimeena | أن اغدوا على حرثكم إن كنتم صارمين أَنِ اغْدُوا عَلَى حَرْثِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَارِمِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | کہ اپنی کھیتی پر سویرے سویرے چلے چلو اگر تم پھل توڑنا چاہتے ہو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "Go ye to your tilth (betimes) in the morning, if ye would gather the fruits."
| ||||||
| Words | |أن - That| اغدوا - "Go early| على - to| حرثكم - your crop| إن - if| كنتم - you would| صارمين - pluck (the) fruit."| | ||||||
| 23. [68:23] | Faintalaqoo wahum yatakhafatoona | فانطلقوا وهم يتخافتون فَانطَلَقُوا وَهُمْ يَتَخَافَتُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | سو وہ لوگ چل پڑے اور وہ آپس میں چپکے چپکے کہتے جاتے تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | So they departed, conversing in secret low tones, (saying)-
| ||||||
| Words | |فانطلقوا - So they went,| وهم - while they| يتخافتون - lowered (their) voices,| | ||||||
| 24. [68:24] | An la yadkhulannaha alyawmaAAalaykum miskeenun | أن لا يدخلنها اليوم عليكم مسكين أَن لَّا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم مِّسْكِينٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | کہ آج اس باغ میں تمہارے پاس ہرگز کوئی محتاج نہ آنے پائے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "Let not a single indigent person break in upon you into the (garden) this day."
| ||||||
| Words | |أن - That| لا - "Not| يدخلنها - will enter it| اليوم - today| عليكم - upon you| مسكين - any poor person."| | ||||||
| 25. [68:25] | Waghadaw AAala hardin qadireena | وغدوا على حرد قادرين وَغَدَوْا عَلَى حَرْدٍ قَادِرِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور وہ صبح سویرے (پھل کاٹنے اور غریبوں کو اُن کے حصہ سے محروم کرنے کے) منصوبے پر قادِر بنتے ہوئے چل پڑے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And they opened the morning, strong in an (unjust) resolve.
| ||||||
| Words | |وغدوا - And they went early| على - with| حرد - determination| قادرين - able.| | ||||||
| 26. [68:26] | Falamma raawha qalooinna ladalloona | فلما رأوها قالوا إنا لضالون فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوا إِنَّا لَضَالُّونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر جب انہوں نے اس (ویران باغ) کو دیکھا تو کہنے لگے: ہم یقیناً راستہ بھول گئے ہیں (یہ ہمارا باغ نہیں ہے) | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But when they saw the (garden), they said: "We have surely lost our way:

| Words | |فلما - But when| رأوها - they saw it,| قالوا - they said,| إنا - "Indeed, we| لضالون - (are) surely lost.| | ||||||
| 27. [68:27] | Bal nahnu mahroomoona | بل نحن محرومون بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (جب غور سے دیکھا تو پکار اٹھے: نہیں نہیں،) بلکہ ہم تو محروم ہو گئے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "Indeed we are shut out (of the fruits of our labour)!"
| ||||||
| Words | |بل - Nay!| نحن - We| محرومون - (are) deprived."| | ||||||
| 28. [68:28] | Qala awsatuhum alam aqul lakumlawla tusabbihoona | قال أوسطهم ألم أقل لكم لولا تسبحون قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | ان کے ایک عدل پسند زِیرک شخص نے کہا: کیا میں نے تم سے نہیں کہا تھا کہ تم (اللہ کا) ذِکر و تسبیح کیوں نہیں کرتے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Said one of them, more just (than the rest): "Did I not say to you, 'Why not glorify (Allah)?'"

| Words | |قال - Said| أوسطهم - (the) most moderate of them,| ألم - "Did not| أقل - I tell| لكم - you,| لولا - 'Why not| تسبحون - you glorify (Allah)?'"| | ||||||
| 29. [68:29] | Qaloo subhana rabbinainna kunna thalimeena | قالوا سبحان ربنا إنا كنا ظالمين قَالُوا سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (تب) وہ کہنے لگے کہ ہمارا رب پاک ہے، بے شک ہم ہی ظالم تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | They said: "Glory to our Lord! Verily we have been doing wrong!"
| ||||||
| Words | |قالوا - They said,| سبحان - "Glory be| ربنا - (to) our Lord!| إنا - Indeed, we| كنا - [we] were| ظالمين - wrongdoers."| | ||||||
| 30. [68:30] | Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatalawamoona | فأقبل بعضهم على بعض يتلاومون فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ يَتَلَاوَمُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | سو وہ ایک دوسرے کی طرف متوجہ ہو کر باہم ملامت کرنے لگے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then they turned, one against another, in reproach.
| ||||||
| Words | |فأقبل - Then approached,| بعضهم - some of them| على - to| بعض - others| يتلاومون - blaming each other.| | ||||||
