| بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ |
| 1. [90:1] | La oqsimu bihatha albaladi |  لا أقسم بهذا البلدلَا أُقْسِمُ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ | |||||

| Tahir ul Qadri | میں اس شہر (مکہ) کی قَسم کھاتا ہوں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | I do call to witness this City;-
| ||||||
| Words | |لا - Nay!| أقسم - I swear| بهذا - by this| البلد - city,| | ||||||
| 2. [90:2] | Waanta hillun bihatha albaladi | وأنت حل بهذا البلد وَأَنتَ حِلٌّ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (اے حبیبِ مکرّم!) اس لئے کہ آپ اس شہر میں تشریف فرما ہیں٭ | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And thou art a freeman of this City;-
| ||||||
| Words | |وأنت - And you| حل - (are) free (to dwell)| بهذا - in this| البلد - city.| | ||||||
| 3. [90:3] | Wawalidin wama walada | ووالد وما ولد وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (اے حبیبِ مکرّم! آپ کے) والد (آدم یا ابراہیم علیہما السلام) کی قَسم اور (ان کی) قَسم جن کی ولادت ہوئی٭ | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;-

| Words | |ووالد - And the begetter| وما - and what| ولد - he begot.| | ||||||
| 4. [90:4] | Laqad khalaqna al-insana feekabadin | لقد خلقنا الإنسان في كبد لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | بیشک ہم نے انسان کو مشقت میں (مبتلا رہنے والا) پیدا کیا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Verily We have created man into toil and struggle.
| ||||||
| Words | |لقد - Certainly,| خلقنا - We have created| الإنسان - man| في - (to be) in| كبد - hardship.| | ||||||
| 5. [90:5] | Ayahsabu an lan yaqdira AAalayhi ahadun | أيحسب أن لن يقدر عليه أحد أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | کیا وہ یہ گمان کرتا ہے کہ اس پر ہرگز کوئی بھی قابو نہ پا سکے گا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Thinketh he, that none hath power over him?
| ||||||
| Words | |أيحسب - Does he think| أن - that| لن - not| يقدر - has power| عليه - over him| أحد - anyone?| | ||||||
| 6. [90:6] | Yaqoolu ahlaktu malan lubadan | يقول أهلكت مالا لبدا يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | وہ (بڑے فخر سے) کہتا ہے کہ میں نے ڈھیروں مال خرچ کیا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance!

| Words | |يقول - He will say,| أهلكت - "I have squandered| مالا - wealth| لبدا - abundant."| | ||||||
| 7. [90:7] | Ayahsabu an lam yarahu ahadun | أيحسب أن لم يره أحد أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُ أَحَدٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | کیا وہ یہ خیال کرتا ہے کہ اسے (یہ فضول خرچیاں کرتے ہوئے) کسی نے نہیں دیکھا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Thinketh he that none beholdeth him?
| ||||||
| Words | |أيحسب - Does he think| أن - that| لم - not| يره - sees him| أحد - anyone?| | ||||||
| 8. [90:8] | Alam najAAal lahu AAaynayni | ألم نجعل له عينين أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُ عَيْنَيْنِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | کیا ہم نے اس کے لئے دو آنکھیں نہیں بنائیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?-
| ||||||
| Words | |ألم - Have not| نجعل - We made| له - for him| عينين - two eyes?| | ||||||
| 9. [90:9] | Walisanan washafatayni | ولسانا وشفتين وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (اسے) ایک زبان اور دو ہونٹ (نہیں دئیے) | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And a tongue, and a pair of lips?-
| ||||||
| Words | |ولسانا - And a tongue,| وشفتين - and two lips?| | ||||||
| 10. [90:10] | Wahadaynahu alnnajdayni | وهديناه النجدين وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور ہم نے اسے (خیر و شر کے) دو نمایاں راستے (بھی) دکھا دیئے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And shown him the two highways?
| ||||||
| Words | |وهديناه - And shown him| النجدين - the two ways?| | ||||||
| 11. [90:11] | Fala iqtahama alAAaqabata | فلا اقتحم العقبة فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | وہ تو (دینِ حق اور عملِ خیر کی) دشوار گزار گھاٹی میں داخل ہی نہیں ہوا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep.
| ||||||
| Words | |فلا - But not| اقتحم - he has attempted| العقبة - the steep path.| | ||||||
| 12. [90:12] | Wama adraka maalAAaqabatu | وما أدراك ما العقبة وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور آپ کیا سمجھے ہیں کہ وہ (دینِ حق کے مجاہدہ کی) گھاٹی کیا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?-
| ||||||
| Words | |وما - And what| أدراك - can make you know| ما - what| العقبة - the steep path (is)?| | ||||||
| 13. [90:13] | Fakku raqabatin | فك رقبة فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | وہ (غلامی و محکومی کی زندگی سے) کسی گردن کا آزاد کرانا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | (It is:) freeing the bondman;
| ||||||
| Words | |فك - (It is) freeing| رقبة - a neck,| | ||||||
| 14. [90:14] | Aw itAAamun fee yawmin theemasghabatin | أو إطعام في يوم ذي مسغبة أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | یا بھوک والے دن (یعنی قحط و اَفلاس کے دور میں غریبوں اور محروم المعیشت لوگوں کو) کھانا کھلانا ہے (یعنی ان کے معاشی تعطل اور ابتلاء کو ختم کرنے کی جدّ و جہد کرنا ہے) | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Or the giving of food in a day of privation

| Words | |أو - Or| إطعام - feeding| في - in| يوم - a day| ذي - of| مسغبة - severe hunger.| | ||||||
| 15. [90:15] | Yateeman tha maqrabatin | يتيما ذا مقربة يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | قرابت دار یتیم کو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | To the orphan with claims of relationship,
| ||||||
| Words | |يتيما - An orphan| ذا - of| مقربة - near relationship,| | ||||||
| 16. [90:16] | Aw miskeenan tha matrabatin | أو مسكينا ذا متربة أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | یا شدید غربت کے مارے ہوئے محتاج کو جو محض خاک نشین (اور بے گھر) ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Or to the indigent (down) in the dust.
| ||||||
| Words | |أو - Or| مسكينا - a needy person| ذا - in| متربة - misery,| | ||||||
| 17. [90:17] | Thumma kana mina allatheena amanoowatawasaw bialssabri watawasaw bialmarhamati | ثم كان من الذين آمنوا وتواصوا بالصبر وتواصوا بالمرحمة ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر (شرط یہ ہے کہ ایسی جدّ و جہد کرنے والا) وہ شخص ان لوگوں میں سے ہو جو ایمان لائے ہیں اور ایک دوسرے کو صبر و تحمل کی نصیحت کرتے ہیں اور باہم رحمت و شفقت کی تاکید کرتے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion.

| Words | |ثم - Then| كان - he is| من - of| الذين - those who| آمنوا - believe| وتواصوا - and enjoin (each other)| بالصبر - to patience,| وتواصوا - and enjoin (each other)| بالمرحمة - to compassion.| | ||||||
| 18. [90:18] | Ola-ika as-habualmaymanati | أولئك أصحاب الميمنة أُوْلَئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | یہی لوگ دائیں طرف والے (یعنی اہلِ سعادت و مغفرت) ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Such are the Companions of the Right Hand.
| ||||||
| Words | |أولئك - Those| أصحاب - (are the) companions| الميمنة - (of) the right (hand)| | ||||||
| 19. [90:20] | AAalayhim narun mu/sadatun | عليهم نار مؤصدة عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | ان پر (ہر طرف سے) بند کی ہوئی آگ (چھائی) ہوگی | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round).
| ||||||
| Words | |عليهم - Over them,| نار - (will be the) Fire| مؤصدة - closed in.| | ||||||
| 20. [90:19] | Waallatheena kafaroo bi-ayatinahum as-habu almash-amati | والذين كفروا بآياتنا هم أصحاب المشأمة وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جن لوگوں نے ہماری آیتوں کا انکار کیا وہ بائیں طرف والے ہیں (یعنی اہلِ شقاوت و عذاب) ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand.
