Wama kana istighfaruibraheema li-abeehi illa AAan mawAAidatin waAAadahaiyyahu falamma tabayyana lahu annahu AAaduwwun lillahitabarraa minhu inna ibraheema laawwahun haleemun وما كان استغفار إبراهيم لأبيه إلا عن موعدة وعدها إياه فلما تبين له أنه عدو لله تبرأ منه إن إبراهيم لأواه حليم
وَمَا كَانَ اسْتِغْفَارُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ إِلاَّ عَن مَّوْعِدَةٍ وَعَدَهَا إِيَّاهُ فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ أَنَّهُ عَدُوٌّ لِلّهِ تَبَرَّأَ مِنْهُ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَأَوَّاهٌ حَلِيمٌ

  اور ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) کا اپنے باپ (یعنی چچا آزر، جس نے آپ کو پالا تھا) کے لئے دعائے مغفرت کرنا صرف اس وعدہ کی غرض سے تھا جو وہ اس سے کر چکے تھے، پھر جب ان پر یہ ظاہر ہوگیا کہ وہ اللہ کا دشمن ہے تو وہ اس سے بے زار ہوگئے (اس سے لاتعلق ہوگئے اور پھر کبھی اس کے حق میں دعا نہ کی)۔ بیشک ابراہیم (علیہ السلام) بڑے دردمند (گریہ و زاری کرنے والے اور) نہایت بردبار تھے

Ahmed Aliاور ابراھیم کا اپنے باپ کے لیے بخشش کی دعا کرنا اور ایک وعدہ کے سبب سے تھا جو وہ اس سے کر چکے تھے پھر جب انہیں معلوم ہوا کہ وہ الله کا دشمن ہے تو اس سے بیزار ہو گئے بے شک ابراھیم بڑے نرم دل تحمل والے تھے

Abul Ala Maududiابراہیمؑ نے اپنے باپ کے لیے جو دعائے مغفرت کی تھی وہ تو اُس وعدے کی وجہ سے تھی جو اس نے اپنے باپ سے کیا تھا، مگر جب اس پر یہ بات کھل گئی کہ اس کا باپ خدا کا دشمن ہے تو وہ اس سے بیزار ہو گیا، حق یہ ہے کہ ابراہیمؑ بڑا رقیق القلب و خداترس اور بردبار آدمی تھا

Hilali/Khan**And (Ibraheems (Abraham)) invoking (of Allah) for his fathers forgiveness was only because of a promise he (Ibraheem (Abraham)) had made to him (his father). But when it became clear to him (Ibraheem (Abraham)) that he (his father) is an enemy to Allah, he dissociated himself from him. Verily Ibraheem (Abraham) was Al-Awwah (has fifteen different meanings but the correct one seems to be that he used to invoke Allah with humility, glorify Him and remember Him much), and was forbearing. (Tafsir Al-Qurtubee).
QXP Shabbir Ahemd**Abraham asked forgiveness for his father because of a promise that he had made. The promise was based on the hope that his father would mend his ways. When Abraham was sure that his father was a persistent opponent of Allah's Commands, he desisted from asking forgiveness for him (14:41), (19:47). Abraham was kind-hearted, clement.
