| بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ |
| 1. [40:78] | Walaqad arsalna rusulan min qablikaminhum man qasasna AAalayka waminhum man lamnaqsus AAalayka wama kana lirasoolinan ya/tiya bi-ayatin illa bi-ithni Allahifa-itha jaa amru Allahi qudiya bialhaqqiwakhasira hunalika almubtiloona |  ولقد أرسلنا رسلا من قبلك منهم من قصصنا عليك ومنهم من لم نقصص عليك وما كان لرسول أن يأتي بآية إلا بإذن الله فإذا جاء أمر الله قضي بالحق وخسر هنالك المبطلونوَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلًا مِّن قَبْلِكَ مِنْهُم مَّن قَصَصْنَا عَلَيْكَ وَمِنْهُم مَّن لَّمْ نَقْصُصْ عَلَيْكَ وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ بِآيَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَمْرُ اللَّهِ قُضِيَ بِالْحَقِّ وَخَسِرَ هُنَالِكَ الْمُبْطِلُونَ | |||||

| Tahir ul Qadri | اور بے شک ہم نے آپ سے پہلے بہت سے رسولوں کو بھیجا، ان میں سے بعض کا حال ہم نے آپ پر بیان فرما دیا اور ان میں سے بعض کا حال ہم نے (ابھی تک) آپ پر بیان نہیں فرمایا، اور کسی بھی رسول کے لئے یہ (ممکن) نہ تھا کہ وہ کوئی نشانی بھی اﷲ کے اِذن کے بغیر لے آئے، پھر جب اﷲ کا حکم آپہنچا (اور) حق و انصاف کے ساتھ فیصلہ کر دیا گیا تو اس وقت اہلِ باطل خسارے میں رہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | We did aforetime send messengers before thee: of them there are some whose story We have related to thee, and some whose story We have not related to thee. It was not (possible) for any messenger to bring a sign except by the leave of Allah: but when the Command of Allah issued, the matter was decided in truth and justice, and there perished, there and then those who stood on Falsehoods.

| Ahmed Raza Khan | اور بیشک ہم نے تم سے پہلے کتنے رسول بھیجے کہ جن میں کسی کا احوال تم سے بیان فرمایا اور کسی کا احوال نہ بیان فرمایا اور کسی رسول کو نہیں پہنچتا کہ کوئی نشانی لے آئے بے حکم خدا کے، پھر جب اللہ کا حکم آئے گا سچا فیصلہ فرمادیا جائے گا اور باطل والوں کا وہاں خسارہ، | ||||||

| Fateh Muhammad Jalandhary | اور ہم نے تم سے پہلے (بہت سے) پیغمبر بھیجے۔ ان میں کچھ تو ایسے ہیں جن کے حالات تم سے بیان کر دیئے ہیں اور کچھ ایسے ہیں جن کے حالات بیان نہیں کئے۔ اور کسی پیغمبر کا مقدور نہ تھا کہ خدا کے حکم کے سوا کوئی نشانی لائے۔ پھر جب خدا کا حکم آپہنچا تو انصاف کے ساتھ فیصلہ کردیا گیا اور اہل باطل نقصان میں پڑ گئے | ||||||

Both passages (6:109 and the present one) relate to the futile demand of Muhammad's opponents to be shown a miracle in proof of the divine origin of the Quran - the implication being that it is not God's will to convince the deniers of the truth by means of what is commonly regarded as "miracles".] Yet when God's will becomes manifest, [Lit., "when God's command comes, i.e., whether it be in this world or on the Day of Judgment: a reference to the retribution spoken of in verse 77 above.] judgment will [already] have been passed in all justice, and lost will be, then and there, all who tried to reduce to nothing [whatever they could not understand]. [I.e., in this case, divine revelation as such. For the above rendering of al-mubtilun, see note on the last sentence of 29:48.] | ||||||
| Khalifa** | We have sent messengers before you - some of them we mentioned to you, and some we did not mention to you. No messenger can produce any miracle without GOD's authorization. Once GOD's judgment is issued, the truth dominates, and the falsifiers are exposed and humiliated. | ||||||
