Wa-ith qalat ta-ifatunminhum ya ahla yathriba la muqama lakum fairjiAAoowayasta/thinu fareequn minhumu alnnabiyyayaqooloona inna buyootana AAawratun wama hiyabiAAawratin in yureedoona illa firaran وإذ قالت طائفة منهم يا أهل يثرب لا مقام لكم فارجعوا ويستأذن فريق منهم النبي يقولون إن بيوتنا عورة وما هي بعورة إن يريدون إلا فرارا
وَإِذْ قَالَت طَّائِفَةٌ مِّنْهُمْ يَا أَهْلَ يَثْرِبَ لَا مُقَامَ لَكُمْ فَارْجِعُوا وَيَسْتَأْذِنُ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمُ النَّبِيَّ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ بُيُوتَنَا عَوْرَةٌ وَمَا هِيَ بِعَوْرَةٍ إِن يُرِيدُونَ إِلَّا فِرَارًا

  اور جبکہ اُن میں سے ایک گروہ کہنے لگا: اے اہلِ یثرب! تمہارے (بحفاظت) ٹھہرنے کی کوئی جگہ نہیں رہی، تم واپس (گھروں کو) چلے جاؤ، اور ان میں سے ایک گروہ نبی (اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) سے یہ کہتے ہوئے (واپس جانے کی) اجازت مانگنے لگا کہ ہمارے گھر کھلے پڑے ہیں، حالانکہ وہ کھلے نہ تھے، وہ (اس بہانے سے) صرف فرار چاہتے تھے

Yousuf AliBehold! A party among them said: "Ye men of Yathrib! ye cannot stand (the attack)! therefore go back!" And a band of them ask for leave of the Prophet, saying, "Truly our houses are bare and exposed," though they were not exposed they intended nothing but to run away.

Ahmed Aliاورجب کہ ان میں سے ایک جماعت کہنے لگی اے مدینہ والو! تمہارے لیے ٹھیرنے کا موقع نہیں سو لوٹ چلو اور ان میں سے کچھ لوگ نبی سے رخصت مانگنے لگے کہنے لگے کہ ہمارے گھر اکیلے ہیں اور حالانکہ وہ اکیلے نہ تھے وہ صرف بھاگنا چاہتے تھے
Ahmed Raza Khanاور جب ان میں سے ایک گروہ نے کہا اے مدینہ والو! یہاں تمہارے ٹھہرنے کی جگہ نہیں تم گھروں کو واپس چلو اور ان میں سے ایک گروہ نبی سے اذن مانگتا تھا یہ کہہ کر ہمارے گھر بے حفاظت ہیں، اور وہ بے حفاظت نہ تھے، وہ تو نہ چاہتے تھے مگر بھاگنا،
Shabbir Ahmed اور جب کہا تھا ایک گروہ نے ان میں سے: اے اہلِ یثرب، نہیں ہے ٹھہرنے کا موقع تمہارے لیے لہٰذا لوٹ جاؤ، اور اجازت طلب کر رہا تھا ایک گروہ ان میں سے، نبی سے، کہتے تھے، واقعہ یہ ہے کہ ہمارے گھر غیر محفوظ ہیں حالانکہ نہ تھے وہ غیر محفوظ، نہ چاہتے تھے وہ لوگ مگر بھاگنا۔

Mehmood Al Hassanاور جب کہنے لگی ایک جماعت ان میں اے یثرب والو تمہارے لئے ٹھکانہ نہیں سو پھر چلو اور رخصت مانگنے لگا ایک فرقہ ان میں نبی سے کہنے لگے ہمارے گھر کھلے پڑے ہیں اور وہ کھلے نہیں پڑے ان کی کوئی غرض نہیں مگر بھاگ جانا
Abul Ala Maududiجب اُن میں سے ایک گروہ نے کہا کہ "اے یثرب کے لوگو، تمہارے لیے اب ٹھیرنے کا کوئی موقع نہیں ہے، پلٹ چلو" جب ان کا ایک فریق یہ کہہ کر نبیؐ سے رخصت طلب کر رہا تھا کہ "ہمارے گھر خطرے میں ہیں،" حالانکہ وہ خطرے میں نہ تھے، دراصل وہ (محاذ جنگ سے) بھاگنا چاہتے تھے

LiteralAnd when a group of people from them said: "You people (of) Yethrib , (there is) no position/status for you, so return." And a group/party from them ask the prophet for permission/pardon (E) they say: "That truly our houses/homes (are) weakly defended ." And it is not with weakly defended , that truly they want except escape .

PickthalAnd when a party of them said: O folk of Yathrib! There is no stand (possible) for you, therefor turn back. And certain of them (even) sought permission of the Prophet, saying: Our homes lie open (to the enemy). And they lay not open. They but wished to flee.
Arberry And when a party of them said, 'O people of Yathrib, there is no abiding here for you, therefore return!' And a part of them Were asking leave of the Prophet, saying, 'Our houses are exposed'; yet they were not exposed; they desired only to flee.
ShakirAnd when a party of them said: O people of Yasrib! there IS no place to stand for you (here), therefore go back; and a party of them asked permission of the prophet, saying. Surely our houses are exposed; and they were not exposed; they only desired to fly away.
SarwarIt was there that a group of them said, "People of Yathrib, turn back for there is no place for you to stay." Another group, asking for the Prophet's permission, said, "Our homes are defenseless." In fact, they were not defenseless. They only wanted to run away.
H/K/SaheehAnd when a faction of them said, "O people of Yathrib, there is no stability for you [here], so return [home]." And a party of them asked permission of the Prophet, saying, "Indeed, our houses are unprotected," while they were not exposed. They did not intend except to flee.
MalikAnd a party of them said: "O people of Yathrib (Medina)! You cannot stand the attack much longer. Go back to your city." And yet another party of them sought leave of the Prophet saying: "In fact our houses are insecure," whereas they were not insecure. They intended nothing but to run away from the battlefront.[13]
Maulana Ali**And if an entry were made upon them from the outlying parts of it, then they were asked to wage war (against the Muslims), they would certainly have done it, and they would not have stayed in it but a little while.
Free MindsAnd a group of them said: "O people of Yathrib, you cannot make a stand; therefore, retreat." And a small party of them sought permission from the prophet, saying: "Our homes are exposed," while they were not exposed. They just wanted to flee.
Qaribullah And when a party of them said: 'People of Yathrib (Madinah), there is no place for you here, therefore return. ' And a party of them asked leave of the Prophet, saying: 'Our houses are exposed' whereas they were not, they only wished to flee.
George SaleAnd when a party of them said, O inhabitants of Yathreb, there is no place of security for you here; wherefore return home. And a part of them asked leave of the prophet to depart, saying, verily our houses are defenceless and exposed to the enemy: But they were not defenceless; and their intention was no other than to fly.

You cannot withstand [the enemy] here: [I.e., outside the city, defending the trench.] hence, go back [to your homes]!" -- Whereupon a party from among them asked leave of the Prophet, saying, "Behold, our houses are exposed [to attack]!" -- The while they were not [really] exposed: they wanted nothing but to flee.
Khalifa**A group of them said, "O people of Yathrib, you cannot attain victory; go back." Others made up excuses to the prophet: "Our homes are vulnerable," when they were not vulnerable. They just wanted to flee.
Hilali/Khan**And when a party of them said: "O people of Yathrib (AlMadinah)! There is no stand (possible) for you (against the enemy attack!) Therefore go back!" And a band of them ask for permission of the Prophet ( SAW) saying: "Truly, our homes lie open (to the enemy)." And they lay not open. They but wished to flee.
QXP Shabbir Ahemd**A group among them said, "O You people of Yathrib! There is no stand possible for you, so, go back." And some of them even sought permission of the Prophet, saying, "Behold, our homes are exposed (to the enemy)." (With the believers firmly entrenched around the town) their homes were not really exposed. They wanted nothing but to flee. (Yathrib = Madinah).
