Waqala allatheena layarjoona liqaana lawla onzila AAalaynaalmala-ikatu aw nara rabbana laqadiistakbaroo fee anfusihim waAAataw AAutuwwan kabeeran وقال الذين لا يرجون لقاءنا لولا أنزل علينا الملائكة أو نرى ربنا لقد استكبروا في أنفسهم وعتوا عتوا كبيرا
وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَاءَنَا لَوْلَا أُنزِلَ عَلَيْنَا الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَوْ نَرَى رَبَّنَا لَقَدِ اسْتَكْبَرُوا فِي أَنفُسِهِمْ وَعَتَوْ عُتُوًّا كَبِيرًا

  اور جو لوگ ہماری ملاقات کی امید نہیں رکھتے کہتے ہیں کہ ہمارے اوپر فرشتے کیوں نہیں اتارے گئے یا ہم اپنے رب کو (اپنی آنکھوں سے) دیکھ لیتے (تو پھر ضرور ایمان لے آتے)، حقیقت میں یہ لوگ اپنے دِلوں میں (اپنے آپ کو) بہت بڑا سمجھنے لگے ہیں اور حد سے بڑھ کر سرکشی کر رہے ہیں

Yousuf AliSuch as fear not the meeting with Us (for Judgment) say: "Why are not the angels sent down to us, or (why) do we not see our Lord?" Indeed they have an arrogant conceit of themselves, and mighty is the insolence of their impiety!

Ahmed Aliاور ان لوگوں نے کہا جو ہم سے ملنے کی امید نہیں رکھتے کہ ہمارے پاس فرشتے کیوں نہ بھیجے گئے یا ہم اپنے رب کو دیکھ لیتے البتہ انہوں نے اپنے آپ کو بہت بڑاسمجھ لیا ہے اور بہت بڑی سرکشی کی ہے
Ahmed Raza Khanاور بولے وہ جو ہمارے ملنے کی امید نہیں رکھتے ہم پر فرشتے کیوں نہ اتارے یا ہم اپنے رب کو دیکھتے بیشک اپنے جی میں بہت ہی اونچی کھینچی (سرکشی کی) اور بڑی سرکشی پر آئے
Shabbir Ahmed ور کہتے ہیں وہ لوگ جو اندیشہ نہیں رکھتے پیش ہونے کا ہمارے حضور، کیوں نہ نازل کیے گئے ہم پر فرشتے یا دیکھتے ہم اپنے رب کو۔ درحقیقت بڑا سمجھ رکھا ہے اُنہوں نے (اپنے آپ کو) اپنے نفس میں اور سرکشی کر رہے ہیں، بہت بڑی سرکشی۔

Abul Ala Maududiجو لوگ ہمارے حضور پیش ہونے کا اندیشہ نہیں رکھتے وہ کہتے ہیں "کیوں نہ فرشتے ہمارے پاس بھیجے جائیں؟ یا پھر ہم اپنے رب کو دیکھیں" بڑا گھمنڈ لے بیٹھے یہ اپنے نفس میں اور حد سے گزر گئے یہ اپنی سرکشی میں

LiteralAnd those who do not hope/expect meeting Us said: "If only angels were descended on (to) us, or we see our Lord." They had become arrogant in themselves, and they became arrogant/disobedient, great arrogance/disobedience.

ShakirAnd those who do not hope for Our meeting, say: Why have not angels been sent down upon us, or (why) do we not see our Lord? Now certainly they are too proud of themselves and have revolted in great revolt.
SarwarThose who have no desire to meet Us have said, "Would that the angels had been sent to us or that we could see our Lord." They are really filled with pride and have committed the greatest and worst kind of rebellion and hostility.

AsadBut those who do not believe that they are destined to meet Us are wont to say, [lit., "who do not hope for [i.e., expect] a meeting with Us": the implication being that they do not believe in resurrection and consequently, do not expect to be judged by God in after-life.] "Why have no angels been sent down to us?" - or, "Why do we not see our Sustainer?" Indeed, they are far too proud of themselves, having rebelled [against God's truth] with utter disdain!
Khalifa**Those who do not expect to meet us said, "If only the angels could come down to us, or we could see our Lord (we would then believe)!" Indeed, they have committed a gross arrogance, and have produced a gross blasphemy.
Hilali/Khan**And those who expect not for a Meeting with Us (i.e. those who deny the Day of Resurrection and the life of the Hereafter), say: "Why are not the angels sent down to us, or why do we not see our Lord?" Indeed they think too highly of themselves, and are scornful with great pride.
