بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Qaloo subhanaka ma kanayanbaghee lana an nattakhitha min doonika min awliyaawalakin mattaAAtahum waabaahum hattanasoo alththikra wakanoo qawman booran قالوا سبحانك ما كان ينبغي لنا أن نتخذ من دونك من أولياء ولكن متعتهم وآباءهم حتى نسوا الذكر وكانوا قوما بورا
قَالُوا سُبْحَانَكَ مَا كَانَ يَنبَغِي لَنَا أَن نَّتَّخِذَ مِن دُونِكَ مِنْ أَوْلِيَاءَ وَلَكِن مَّتَّعْتَهُمْ وَآبَاءَهُمْ حَتَّى نَسُوا الذِّكْرَ وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا بُورًا

  وہ کہیں گے: تیری ذات پاک ہے ہمیں (تو) یہ بات (بھی) زیبا نہ تھی کہ ہم تیرے سوا اوروں کو دوست (ہی) بنائیں (چہ جائے کہ ہم انہیں تیرے غیر کی عبادت کا کہتے) لیکن (اے مولا!) تو نے انہیں اور ان کے باپ دادا کو (دنیوی مال و اسباب سے) اتنا بہرہ مند فرمایا، یہاں تک کہ وہ تیری یاد (بھی) بھول گئے، اور یہ (بدبخت) ہلاک ہونے والے لوگ (ہی) تھے

Yousuf AliThey will say: "Glory to Thee! not meet was it for us that we should take for protectors others besides Thee: But Thou didst bestow, on them and their fathers, good things (in life), until they forgot the Message: for they were a people (worthless and) lost."

Ahmed Aliکہیں گے تو پاک ہے ہمیں یہ کب لایق تھا کہ تیرے سوا کسی اور کو کارساز بناتے لیکن تو نے انہیں اور ان کے باپ دادا کو یہاں تک آسودگی دی تھی کہ وہ یاد کرنا بھول گئے اور یہ لوگ تباہ ہونے والے تھے
Ahmed Raza Khanوہ عرض کریں گے پاکی ہے تجھ کو ہمیں سزاوار (حق) نہ تھا کہ تیرے سوا کسی اور کو مولیٰ بنائیں لیکن تو نے انہیں اور ان کے باپ داداؤں کو برتنے دیا یہاں تک کہ وہ تیری یاد بھول گئے اور یہ لوگ تھے ہی ہلاک ہونے والے
Shabbir Ahmed وہ عرض کریں گے پاک ہے تیری ذات، نہ تھا یہ مناسب ہمارے لیے کہ ہم بناتے تیرے سوا کسی کو اپنا مولیٰ، لیکن خوب فائدے پہنچائے اُنہیں تونے اور ان کے باپ دادا کو حتی کہ وہ غافل ہوگئے تیری یاد سے اور ہوکر رہ گئے شامت زدہ۔
Fateh Muhammad Jalandharyوہ کہیں گے تو پاک ہے ہمیں یہ بات شایان نہ تھی کہ تیرے سوا اوروں کو دوست بناتے۔ لیکن تو نے ہی ان کو اور ان کے باپ دادا کو برتنے کو نعمتیں دیں یہاں تک کہ وہ تیری یاد کو بھول گئے۔ اور یہ ہلاک ہونے والے لوگ تھے
Mehmood Al Hassanبولیں گے تو پاک ہے ہم سے بن نہ آتا تھا کہ پکڑ لیں کسی کو تیرے بغیر رفیق لیکن تو ان کو فائدہ پہنچاتا رہا اور انکے باپ دادوں کو یہاں تک کہ بھلا بیٹھے تیری یاد اور یہ تھے لوگ تباہ ہونے والے
Abul Ala Maududiوہ عرض کریں گے "پاک ہے آپ کی ذات، ہماری تو یہ بھی مجال نہ تھی کہ آپ کے سوا کسی کو اپنا مولا بنائیں مگر آپ نے اِن کو اور ان کے باپ دادا کو خوب سامانِ زندگی دیا حتیٰ کہ یہ سبق بھول گئے اور شامت زدہ ہو کر رہے"

H/K/SaheehThey will say, Exalted are You! It was not for us to take besides You any allies. But You provided comforts for them and their fathers until they forgot the message and became a people ruined.
MalikThose deities will answer: "Glory be to You! It was not befitting for us that we could take any guardian besides You, but You let them and their forefathers enjoy the comforts of worldly life until they forgot the Reminder, and thereby became worthless people."[18]

AsadThey will answer: "Limitless art Thou in Thy glory! It was inconceivable for us to take for our masters anyone but Thyself! [Sc., "and so it would have been morally impossible for us to ask others to worship us". On the other hand, Ibn Kathir understands the expression "for us" (lana) as denoting "us human beings" in general, and not merely the speakers - in which case the sentence could be rendered thus: "It is not right for us [human beings] to take...", etc. In either case, the above allegorical "question-and-answer" - repeated in many variations throughout the Quran - is meant to stress, in a dramatic manner, the moral odiousness and intellectual futility of attributing divine qualities to any being other than God.] But [as for them -] Thou didst allow them and their forefathers to enjoy [the pleasures of] life to such an extent that [This is the meaning of hatta (lit., "till" or "until") in the present context.] they forgot all remembrance [of Thee]: for they were people devoid of all good."
Khalifa**They will say, "Be You glorified, it was not right for us to set up any lords beside You. But You allowed them to enjoy, together with their parents. Consequently, they disregarded the message and thus became wicked people."
Hilali/Khan**They will say: "Glorified be You! It was not for us to take any Auliya (Protectors, Helpers, etc.) besides You, but You gave them and their fathers comfort till they forgot the warning, and became a lost people (doomed to total loss).
QXP Shabbir Ahemd**They will say, "Glory to You! It was not befitting for us that we should take for protecting masters others than Yourself. But You did bestow on them and their ancestors, good things in life to the extent that they disregarded the Reminder and became a lost folk."
