Qaloo ma akhlafnamawAAidaka bimalkina walakinna hummilnaawzaran min zeenati alqawmi faqathafnahafakathalika alqa alssamiriyyu قالوا ما أخلفنا موعدك بملكنا ولكنا حملنا أوزارا من زينة القوم فقذفناها فكذلك ألقى السامري
قَالُوا مَا أَخْلَفْنَا مَوْعِدَكَ بِمَلْكِنَا وَلَكِنَّا حُمِّلْنَا أَوْزَارًا مِّن زِينَةِ الْقَوْمِ فَقَذَفْنَاهَا فَكَذَلِكَ أَلْقَى السَّامِرِيُّ

  وہ بولے: ہم نے اپنے اختیار سے آپ کے وعدہ کی خلاف ورزی نہیں کی مگر (ہوا یہ کہ) قوم کے زیورات کے بھاری بوجھ ہم پر لاد دیئے گئے تھے تو ہم نے انہیں (آگ میں) ڈال دیا پھر اسی طرح سامری نے (بھی) ڈال دیئے

Yousuf AliThey said: "We broke not the promise to thee, as far as lay in our power: but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the (whole) people, and we threw them (into the fire), and that was what the Samiri suggested.
