| بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ |
| 1. [2:93] | Wa-ith akhathna meethaqakumwarafaAAna fawqakumu alttoora khuthooma ataynakum biquwwatin waismaAAoo qaloosamiAAna waAAasayna waoshriboo feequloobihimu alAAijla bikufrihim qul bi/sama ya/murukumbihi eemanukum in kuntum mu/mineena |  وإذ أخذنا ميثاقكم ورفعنا فوقكم الطور خذوا ما آتيناكم بقوة واسمعوا قالوا سمعنا وعصينا وأشربوا في قلوبهم العجل بكفرهم قل بئسما يأمركم به إيمانكم إن كنتم مؤمنينوَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَاقَكُمْ وَرَفَعْنَا فَوْقَكُمُ الطُّورَ خُذُواْ مَا آتَيْنَاكُمْ بِقُوَّةٍ وَّاسْمَعُواْ قَالُواْ سَمِعْنَا وَعَصَيْنَا وَأُشْرِبُواْ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الْعِجْلَ بِكُفْرِهِمْ قُلْ بِئْسَمَا يَأْمُرُكُمْ بِهِ إِيمَانُكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ مُّؤْمِنِينَ | |||||

| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جب ہم نے تم سے پختہ عہد لیا اور ہم نے تمہارے اوپر طور کو اٹھا کھڑا کیا (یہ فرما کر کہ) اس (کتاب) کو مضبوطی سے تھامے رکھو جو ہم نے تمہیں عطا کی ہے اور (ہمارا حکم) سنو، تو (تمہارے بڑوں نے) کہا: ہم نے سن لیا مگر مانا نہیں، اور ان کے دلوں میں ان کے کفر کے باعث بچھڑے کی محبت رچا دی گئی تھی، (اے محبوب! انہیں) بتا دیں یہ باتیں بہت (ہی) بری ہیں جن کا حکم تمہیں تمہارا (نام نہاد) ایمان دے رہا ہے اگر (تم واقعۃً ان پر) ایمان رکھتے ہو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And remember We took your covenant and We raised above you (the towering height) of Mount (Sinai): (Saying): "Hold firmly to what We have given you, and hearken (to the Law)": They said:" We hear, and we disobey:" And they had to drink into their hearts (of the taint) of the calf because of their Faithlessness. Say: "Vile indeed are the behests of your Faith if ye have any faith!"

So much was the love of that calf in their hearts due to their unbelief. Tell them: "If you are real believers, then why does your faith prompt you to do such evil things?"[93] | ||||||

The desire to worship a tangible deity was so strong in them that their hearts were infused with the love of the calf, because of their persistent failure to see the Truth. Say, "If your faith teaches you to go back to the primitive ways of worship, then you are in a pitiable state of mind - if you are at all believers." | ||||||
