| بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ |
| 1. [2:10] | Fee quloobihim maradun fazadahumuAllahu maradan walahum AAathabun aleemun bimakanoo yakthiboona |  في قلوبهم مرض فزادهم الله مرضا ولهم عذاب أليم بما كانوا يكذبونفِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ فَزَادَهُمُ اللّهُ مَرَضاً وَلَهُم عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْذِبُونَ | |||||

| Tahir ul Qadri | ان کے دلوں میں بیماری ہے، پس اللہ نے ان کی بیماری کو اور بڑھا دیا اور ان کے لئے دردناک عذاب ہے۔ اس وجہ سے کہ وہ جھوٹ بولتے تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | In their hearts is a disease; and Allah has increased their disease: And grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).

| 2. [2:11] | Wa-itha qeela lahum latufsidoo fee al-ardi qaloo innama nahnumuslihoona | وإذا قيل لهم لا تفسدوا في الأرض قالوا إنما نحن مصلحون وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لاَ تُفْسِدُواْ فِي الأَرْضِ قَالُواْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جب ان سے کہا جاتا ہے کہ زمین میں فساد بپا نہ کرو، تو کہتے ہیں: ہم ہی تو اصلاح کرنے والے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "Why, we only Want to make peace!"

| 3. [2:12] | Ala innahum humu almufsidoona walakinla yashAAuroona | ألا إنهم هم المفسدون ولكن لا يشعرون أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْمُفْسِدُونَ وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَشْعُرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | آگاہ ہو جاؤ! یہی لوگ (حقیقت میں) فساد کرنے والے ہیں مگر انہیں (اس کا) احساس تک نہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realise (it) not.

| Words | |ألا - Beware,| إنهم - indeed they| هم - themselves| المفسدون - (are) the ones who spread corruption,| ولكن - [and] but| لا - not| يشعرون - they realize (it).| | ||||||

[2:14] | Wa-itha laqoo allatheena amanooqaloo amanna wa-itha khalaw ilashayateenihim qaloo inna maAAakum innamanahnu mustahzi-oona | وإذا لقوا الذين آمنوا قالوا آمنا وإذا خلوا إلى شياطينهم قالوا إنا معكم إنما نحن مستهزئون وَإِذَا لَقُواْ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ قَالُواْ آمَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوْا إِلَى شَيَاطِيـْنِهِمْ قَالُواْ إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جب وہ (منافق) اہل ایمان سے ملتے ہیں تو کہتے ہیں: ہم (بھی) ایمان لے آئے ہیں، اور جب اپنے شیطانوں سے تنہائی میں ملتے ہیں تو کہتے ہیں: ہم یقیناً تمہارے ساتھ ہیں، ہم (مسلمانوں کا تو) محض مذاق اڑاتے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | When they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe;" but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say: "We are really with you: We (were) only jesting."

[2:13] | Wa-itha qeela lahum aminoo kamaamana alnnasu qaloo anu/minu kamaamana alssufahao ala innahum humu alssufahaowalakin la yaAAlamoona | وإذا قيل لهم آمنوا كما آمن الناس قالوا أنؤمن كما آمن السفهاء ألا إنهم هم السفهاء ولكن لا يعلمون وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ آمِنُواْ كَمَا آمَنَ النَّاسُ قَالُواْ أَنُؤْمِنُ كَمَا آمَنَ السُّفَهَاءُ أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ السُّفَهَاءُ وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَعْلَمُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جب ان سے کہا جاتا ہے کہ (تم بھی) ایمان لاؤ جیسے (دوسرے) لوگ ایمان لے آئے ہیں، تو کہتے ہیں: کیا ہم بھی (اسی طرح) ایمان لے آئیں جس طرح (وہ) بیوقوف ایمان لے آئے، جان لو! بیوقوف (درحقیقت) وہ خود ہیں لیکن انہیں (اپنی بیوقوفی اور ہلکے پن کا) علم نہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say: "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know.

| 6. [2:15] | Allahu yastahzi-o bihim wayamudduhumfee tughyanihim yaAAmahoona | الله يستهزئ بهم ويمدهم في طغيانهم يعمهون اللّهُ يَسْتَهْزِئُ بِهِمْ وَيَمُدُّهُمْ فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اللہ انہیں ان کے مذاق کی سزا دیتا ہے اور انہیں ڈھیل دیتا ہے (تاکہ وہ خود اپنے انجام تک جا پہنچیں) سو وہ خود اپنی سرکشی میں بھٹک رہے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Allah will throw back their mockery on them, and give them rope in their trespasses; so they will wander like blind ones (To and fro).

[2:16] | Ola-ika allatheena ishtarawooalddalalata bialhuda famarabihat tijaratuhum wama kanoomuhtadeena | أولئك الذين اشتروا الضلالة بالهدى فما ربحت تجارتهم وما كانوا مهتدين أُوْلَـئِكَ الَّذِينَ اشْتَرَوُاْ الضَّلاَلَةَ بِالْهُدَى فَمَا رَبِحَت تِّجَارَتُهُمْ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُهْتَدِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | یہی وہ لوگ ہیں جنہوں نے ہدایت کے بدلے گمراہی خریدی لیکن ان کی تجارت فائدہ مند نہ ہوئی اور وہ (فائدہ مند اور نفع بخش سودے کی) راہ جانتے ہی نہ تھے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | These are they who have bartered Guidance for error: But their traffic is profitless, and they have lost true direction,

| Words | |أولئك - Those| الذين - (are) the ones who| اشتروا - bought| الضلالة - [the] astraying| بالهدى - for [the] guidance.| فما - So not| ربحت - profited| تجارتهم - their commerce| وما - and not| كانوا - were they| مهتدين - guided-ones.| | ||||||

[2:17] | Mathaluhum kamathali allatheeistawqada naran falamma adaat ma hawlahuthahaba Allahu binoorihim watarakahum fee thulumatinla yubsiroona | مثلهم كمثل الذي استوقد نارا فلما أضاءت ما حوله ذهب الله بنورهم وتركهم في ظلمات لا يبصرون مَثَلُهُمْ كَمَثَلِ الَّذِي اسْتَوْقَدَ نَاراً فَلَمَّا أَضَاءَتْ مَا حَوْلَهُ ذَهَبَ اللّهُ بِنُورِهِمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ فِي ظُلُمَاتٍ لاَّ يُبْصِرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | ان کی مثال ایسے شخص کی مانند ہے جس نے (تاریک ماحول میں) آگ جلائی اور جب اس نے گرد و نواح کو روشن کر دیا تو اللہ نے ان کا نور سلب کر لیا اور انہیں تاریکیوں میں چھوڑ دیا اب وہ کچھ نہیں دیکھتے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Their similitude is that of a man who kindled a fire; when it lighted all around him, Allah took away their light and left them in utter darkness. So they could not see.

| 9. [2:18] | Summun bukmun AAumyun fahum layarjiAAoona | صم بكم عمي فهم لا يرجعون صُمٌّ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌ فَهُمْ لاَ يَرْجِعُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | یہ بہرے، گونگے (اور) اندھے ہیں پس وہ (راہِ راست کی طرف) نہیں لوٹیں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Deaf, dumb, and blind, they will not return (to the path).

| Words | |صم - Deaf,| بكم - dumb,| عمي - blind,| فهم - so they| لا - not| يرجعون - [they] will not return.| | ||||||

[2:21] | Ya ayyuha alnnasuoAAbudoo rabbakumu allathee khalaqakum waallatheenamin qablikum laAAallakum tattaqoona | يا أيها الناس اعبدوا ربكم الذي خلقكم والذين من قبلكم لعلكم تتقون يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اعْبُدُواْ رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اے لوگو! اپنے رب کی عبادت کرو جس نے تمہیں پیدا کیا اور ان لوگوں کو (بھی) جو تم سے پیشتر تھے تاکہ تم پرہیزگار بن جاؤ | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | O ye people! Adore your Guardian-Lord, who created you and those who came before you, that ye may have the chance to learn righteousness;

[2:19] | Aw kasayyibin mina alssama-ifeehi thulumatun waraAAdun wabarqunyajAAaloona asabiAAahum fee athanihim mina alssawaAAiqihathara almawti waAllahu muheetunbialkafireena | أو كصيب من السماء فيه ظلمات ورعد وبرق يجعلون أصابعهم في آذانهم من الصواعق حذر الموت والله محيط بالكافرين أَوْ كَصَيِّبٍ مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ فِيهِ ظُلُمَاتٌ وَّرَعْدٌ وَّبَرْقٌ يَجْعَلُونَ أَصَابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِم مِّنَ الصَّوَاعِقِ حَذَرَ الْمَوْتِ وَاللّهُ مُحِيطٌ بِالْكَافِرِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | یا ان کی مثال اس بارش کی سی ہے جو آسمان سے برس رہی ہے جس میں اندھیریاں ہیں اور گرج اور چمک (بھی) ہے تو وہ کڑک کے باعث موت کے ڈر سے اپنے کانوں میں انگلیاں ٹھونس لیتے ہیں، اور اللہ کافروں کو گھیرے ہوئے ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Or (another similitude) is that of a rain-laden cloud from the sky: In it are zones of darkness, and thunder and lightning: They press their fingers in their ears to keep out the stunning thunder-clap, the while they are in terror of death. But Allah is ever round the rejecters of Faith!

[2:24] | Fa-in lam tafAAaloo walan tafAAaloo faittaqooalnnara allatee waqooduha alnnasuwaalhijaratu oAAiddat lilkafireena | فإن لم تفعلوا ولن تفعلوا فاتقوا النار التي وقودها الناس والحجارة أعدت للكافرين فَإِن لَّمْ تَفْعَلُواْ وَلَن تَفْعَلُواْ فَاتَّقُواْ النَّارَ الَّتِي وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْكَافِرِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر اگر تم ایسا نہ کر سکو اور ہرگز نہ کر سکو گے تو اس آگ سے بچو جس کا ایندھن آدمی (یعنی کافر) اور پتھر (یعنی ان کے بت) ہیں، جو کافروں کے لئے تیار کی گئی ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But if ye cannot- and of a surety ye cannot- then fear the Fire whose fuel is men and stones,- which is prepared for those who reject Faith.

[2:20] | Yakadu albarqu yakhtafu absarahumkullama adaa lahum mashaw feehi wa-itha athlamaAAalayhim qamoo walaw shaa Allahu lathahababisamAAihim waabsarihim inna Allaha AAalakulli shay-in qadeerun | يكاد البرق يخطف أبصارهم كلما أضاء لهم مشوا فيه وإذا أظلم عليهم قاموا ولو شاء الله لذهب بسمعهم وأبصارهم إن الله على كل شيء قدير يَكَادُ الْبَرْقُ يَخْطَفُ أَبْصَارَهُمْ كُلَّمَا أَضَاءَ لَهُم مَّشَوْاْ فِيهِ وَإِذَا أَظْلَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَامُواْ وَلَوْ شَاء اللّهُ لَذَهَبَ بِسَمْعِهِمْ وَأَبْصَارِهِمْ إِنَّ اللَّه عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | یوں لگتا ہے کہ بجلی ان کی بینائی اُچک لے جائے گی، جب بھی ان کے لئے (ماحول میں) کچھ چمک ہوتی ہے تو اس میں چلنے لگتے ہیں اور جب ان پر اندھیرا چھا جاتا ہے تو کھڑے ہو جاتے ہیں، اور اگر اللہ چاہتا تو ان کی سماعت اور بصارت بالکل سلب کر لیتا، بیشک اللہ ہر چیز پر قادر ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | The lightning all but snatches away their sight; every time the light (Helps) them, they walk therein, and when the darkness grows on them, they stand still. And if Allah willed, He could take away their faculty of hearing and seeing; for Allah hath power over all things.

| Words | |يكاد - Almost| البرق - the lightning| يخطف - snatches away| أبصارهم - their sight.| كلما - Whenever| أضاء - it flashes| لهم - for them| مشوا - they walk| فيه - in it,| وإذا - and when| أظلم - it darkens| عليهم - on them| قاموا - they stand (still).| ولو - And if| شاء - had willed| الله - Allah,| لذهب - He would certainly have taken away| بسمعهم - their hearing,| وأبصارهم - and their sight.| إن - Indeed,| الله - Allah| على - (is) on| كل - every| شيء - thing| قدير - All-Powerful.| | ||||||

[2:28] | Kayfa takfuroona biAllahiwakuntum amwatan faahyakum thumma yumeetukumthumma yuhyeekum thumma ilayhi turjaAAoona | كيف تكفرون بالله وكنتم أمواتا فأحياكم ثم يميتكم ثم يحييكم ثم إليه ترجعون كَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَكُنتُمْ أَمْوَاتاً فَأَحْيَاكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | تم کس طرح اللہ کا انکار کرتے ہو حالانکہ تم بے جان تھے اس نے تمہیں زندگی بخشی، پھر تمہیں موت سے ہمکنار کرے گا اور پھر تمہیں زندہ کرے گا، پھر تم اسی کی طرف لوٹائے جاؤ گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | How can ye reject the faith in Allah?- seeing that ye were without life, and He gave you life; then will He cause you to die, and will again bring you to life; and again to Him will ye return.

[2:22] | Allathee jaAAala lakumu al-ardafirashan waalssamaa binaan waanzalamina alssama-i maan faakhraja bihi mina alththamaratirizqan lakum fala tajAAaloo lillahi andadanwaantum taAAlamoona | الذي جعل لكم الأرض فراشا والسماء بناء وأنزل من السماء ماء فأخرج به من الثمرات رزقا لكم فلا تجعلوا لله أندادا وأنتم تعلمون الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الأَرْضَ فِرَاشاً وَّالسَّمَاءَ بِنَاءً وَّأَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَأَخْرَجَ بِهِ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ رِزْقاً لَّكُمْ فَلاَ تَجْعَلُواْ لِلّهِ أَندَاداً وَّأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | جس نے تمہارے لئے زمین کو فرش اور آسمان کو عمارت بنایا اور آسمانوں کی طرف سے پانی برسایا پھر اس کے ذریعے تمہارے کھانے کے لئے (انواع و اقسام کے) پھل پیدا کئے، پس تم اللہ کے لئے شریک نہ ٹھہراؤ حالانکہ تم (حقیقتِ حال) جانتے ہو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Who has made the earth your couch, and the heavens your canopy; and sent down rain from the heavens; and brought forth therewith Fruits for your sustenance; then set not up rivals unto Allah when ye know (the truth).

[2:31] | WaAAallama adama al-asmaakullaha thumma AAaradahum AAala almala-ikatifaqala anbi-oonee bi-asma-i haola-iin kuntum sadiqeena | وعلم آدم الأسماء كلها ثم عرضهم على الملائكة فقال أنبئوني بأسماء هؤلاء إن كنتم صادقين وَعَلَّمَ آدَمَ الأَسْمَاءَ كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمْ عَلَى الْمَلاَئِكَةِ فَقَالَ أَنْبِئُونِي بِأَسْمَاءِ هَـؤُلَاءِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور اللہ نے آدم (علیہ السلام) کو تمام (اشیاء کے) نام سکھا دیئے پھر انہیں فرشتوں کے سامنے پیش کیا، اور فرمایا: مجھے ان اشیاء کے نام بتا دو اگر تم (اپنے خیال میں) سچے ہو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And He taught Adam the names of all things; then He placed them before the angels, and said: "Tell me the names of these if ye are right."

| Words | |وعلم - And He taught| آدم - Adam| الأسماء - the names -| كلها - all of them.| ثم - Then| عرضهم - He displayed them| على - to| الملائكة - the angels,| فقال - then He said,| أنبئوني - "Inform Me| بأسماء - of (the) names| هؤلاء - (of) these,| إن - if| كنتم - you are| صادقين - truthful."| | ||||||

[2:23] | Wa-in kuntum fee raybin mimma nazzalnaAAala AAabdina fa/too bisooratin min mithlihi waodAAooshuhadaakum min dooni Allahi in kuntum sadiqeena | وإن كنتم في ريب مما نزلنا على عبدنا فأتوا بسورة من مثله وادعوا شهداءكم من دون الله إن كنتم صادقين وَإِنْ كُنتُمْ فِي رَيْبٍ مِّمَّا نَزَّلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِنَا فَأْتُواْ بِسُورَةٍ مِّن مِّثْلِهِ وَادْعُواْ شُهَدَاءَكُم مِّن دُونِ اللّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور اگر تم اس (کلام) کے بارے میں شک میں مبتلا ہو جو ہم نے اپنے (برگزیدہ) بندے پر نازل کیا ہے تو اس جیسی کوئی ایک سورت ہی بنا لاؤ، اور (اس کام کے لئے بیشک) اللہ کے سوا اپنے (سب) حمائتیوں کو بلا لو اگر تم (اپنے شک اور انکار میں) سچے ہو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And if ye are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to Our servant, then produce a Sura like thereunto; and call your witnesses or helpers (If there are any) besides Allah, if your (doubts) are true.

| 18. [2:32] | Qaloo subhanaka laAAilma lana illa ma AAallamtanainnaka anta alAAaleemu alhakeemu | قالوا سبحانك لا علم لنا إلا ما علمتنا إنك أنت العليم الحكيم قَالُواْ سُبْحَانَكَ لاَ عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلاَّ مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | فرشتوں نے عرض کیا: تیری ذات (ہر نقص سے) پاک ہے ہمیں کچھ علم نہیں مگر اسی قدر جو تو نے ہمیں سکھایا ہے، بیشک تو ہی (سب کچھ) جاننے والا حکمت والا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | They said: "Glory to Thee, of knowledge We have none, save what Thou Hast taught us: In truth it is Thou Who art perfect in knowledge and wisdom."

[2:25] | Wabashshiri allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo alssalihati anna lahum jannatintajree min tahtiha al-anharu kullamaruziqoo minha min thamaratin rizqan qaloo hathaallathee ruziqna min qablu waotoo bihi mutashabihanwalahum feeha azwajun mutahharatun wahumfeeha khalidoona | وبشر الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات أن لهم جنات تجري من تحتها الأنهار كلما رزقوا منها من ثمرة رزقا قالوا هذا الذي رزقنا من قبل وأتوا به متشابها ولهم فيها أزواج مطهرة وهم فيها خالدون وَبَشِّرِ الَّذِين آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ كُلَّمَا رُزِقُواْ مِنْهَا مِن ثَمَرَةٍ رِّزْقاً قَالُواْ هَـذَا الَّذِي رُزِقْنَا مِن قَبْلُ وَأُتُواْ بِهِ مُتَشَابِهاً وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا أَزْوَاجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ وَّهُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (اے حبیب!) آپ ان لوگوں کو خوشخبری سنا دیں جو ایمان لائے اور نیک عمل کرتے رہے کہ ان کے لئے (بہشت کے) باغات ہیں جن کے نیچے نہریں بہتی ہیں، جب انہیں ان باغات میں سے کوئی پھل کھانے کو دیا جائے گا تو (اس کی ظاہری صورت دیکھ کر) کہیں گے: یہ تو وہی پھل ہے جو ہمیں (دنیا میں) پہلے دیا گیا تھا، حالانکہ انہیں (صورت میں) ملتے جلتے پھل دیئے گئے ہوں گے، ان کے لئے جنت میں پاکیزہ بیویاں (بھی) ہوں گی اور وہ ان میں ہمیشہ رہیں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | But give glad tidings to those who believe and work righteousness, that their portion is Gardens, beneath which rivers flow. Every time they are fed with fruits therefrom, they say: "Why, this is what we were fed with before," for they are given things in similitude; and they have therein companions pure (and holy); and they abide therein (for ever).

| Words | |وبشر - And give good news| الذين - (to) those who| آمنوا - believe,| وعملوا - and do| الصالحات - [the] righteous deeds,| أن - that| لهم - for them| جنات - (will be) Gardens,| تجري - flow| من - [from]| تحتها - under them| الأنهار - the rivers.| كلما - Every time| رزقوا - they are provided| منها - therefrom| من - of| ثمرة - fruit| رزقا - (as) provision,| قالوا - they (will) say,| هذا - "This (is)| الذي - the one which| رزقنا - we were provided| من - from| قبل - before."| وأتوا - And they will be given| به - therefrom| متشابها - (things) in resemblance;| ولهم - And for them| فيها - therein| أزواج - spouses| مطهرة - purified,| وهم - and they| فيها - therein| خالدون - (will) abide forever.| | ||||||

[2:26] | Inna Allaha la yastahyeean yadriba mathalan ma baAAoodatan famafawqaha faamma allatheena amanoofayaAAlamoona annahu alhaqqu min rabbihim waammaallatheena kafaroo fayaqooloona matha aradaAllahu bihatha mathalan yudillu bihikatheeran wayahdee bihi katheeran wama yudillu bihiilla alfasiqeena | إن الله لا يستحيي أن يضرب مثلا ما بعوضة فما فوقها فأما الذين آمنوا فيعلمون أنه الحق من ربهم وأما الذين كفروا فيقولون ماذا أراد الله بهذا مثلا يضل به كثيرا ويهدي به كثيرا وما يضل به إلا الفاسقين إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَسْتَحْيِي أَن يَّضْرِبَ مَثَلاً مَّا بَعُوضَةً فَمَا فَوْقَهَا فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ فَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فَيَقُولُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَـذَا مَثَلاً يُضِلُّ بِهِ كَثِيراً وَّيَهْدِي بِهِ كَثِيراً وَمَا يُضِلُّ بِهِ إِلاَّ الْفَاسِقِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | بیشک اللہ اس بات سے نہیں شرماتا کہ (سمجھانے کے لئے) کوئی بھی مثال بیان فرمائے (خواہ) مچھر کی ہو یا (ایسی چیز کی جو حقارت میں) اس سے بھی بڑھ کر ہو، تو جو لوگ ایمان لائے وہ خوب جانتے ہیں کہ یہ مثال ان کے رب کی طرف سے حق (کی نشاندہی) ہے، اور جنہوں نے کفر اختیار کیا وہ (اسے سن کر یہ) کہتے ہیں کہ ایسی تمثیل سے اللہ کو کیا سروکار؟ (اس طرح) اللہ ایک ہی بات کے ذریعے بہت سے لوگوں کو گمراہ ٹھہراتا ہے اور بہت سے لوگوں کو ہدایت دیتا ہے اور اس سے صرف انہی کو گمراہی میں ڈالتا ہے جو (پہلے ہی) نافرمان ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Allah disdains not to use the similitude of things, lowest as well as highest. Those who believe know that it is truth from their Lord; but those who reject Faith say: "What means Allah by this similitude?" By it He causes many to stray, and many He leads into the right path; but He causes not to stray, except those who forsake (the path),-

| Words | |إن - Indeed,| الله - Allah| لا - (is) not| يستحيي - ashamed| أن - to| يضرب - set forth| مثلا - an example| ما - (like) even| بعوضة - (of) a mosquito| فما - and (even) something| فوقها - above it.| فأما - Then as for| الذين - those who| آمنوا - believed,| فيعلمون - [thus] they will know| أنه - that it| الحق - (is) the truth| من - from| ربهم - their Lord.| وأما - And as for| الذين - those who| كفروا - disbelieved| فيقولون - [thus] they will say| ماذا - what| أراد - (did) intend| الله - Allah| بهذا - by this| مثلا - example?| يضل - He lets go astray| به - by it| كثيرا - many| ويهدي - and He guides| به - by it| كثيرا - many.| وما - And not| يضل - He lets go astray| به - by it| إلا - except| الفاسقين - the defiantly disobedient.| | ||||||

[2:27] | Allatheena yanqudoona AAahdaAllahi min baAAdi meethaqihi wayaqtaAAoona maamara Allahu bihi an yoosala wayufsidoona fee al-ardiola-ika humu alkhasiroona | الذين ينقضون عهد الله من بعد ميثاقه ويقطعون ما أمر الله به أن يوصل ويفسدون في الأرض أولئك هم الخاسرون الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُّوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الأَرْضِ أُولَـئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | (یہ نافرمان وہ لوگ ہیں) جو اللہ کے عہد کو اس سے پختہ کرنے کے بعد توڑتے ہیں، اور اس (تعلق) کو کاٹتے ہیں جس کو اللہ نے جوڑنے کا حکم دیا ہے اور زمین میں فساد بپا کرتے ہیں، یہی لوگ نقصان اٹھانے والے ہیں | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Those who break Allah's Covenant after it is ratified, and who sunder what Allah Has ordered to be joined, and do mischief on earth: These cause loss (only) to themselves.

[2:34] | Wa-ith qulna lilmala-ikatiosjudoo li-adama fasajadoo illa ibleesa abawaistakbara wakana mina alkafireena | وإذ قلنا للملائكة اسجدوا لآدم فسجدوا إلا إبليس أبى واستكبر وكان من الكافرين وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ اسْجُدُواْ لِآدَمَ فَسَجَدُواْ إِلاَّ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَى وَاسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (وہ وقت بھی یاد کریں) جب ہم نے فرشتوں سے فرمایا کہ آدم (علیہ السلام) کو سجدہ کرو تو سب نے سجدہ کیا سوائے ابلیس کے، اس نے انکار اور تکبر کیا اور (نتیجۃً) کافروں میں سے ہو گیا | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | And behold, We said to the angels: "Bow down to Adam" and they bowed down. Not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: He was of those who reject Faith.

[2:29] | Huwa allathee khalaqa lakum mafee al-ardi jameeAAan thumma istawa ila alssama-ifasawwahunna sabAAa samawatin wahuwa bikullishay-in AAaleemun | هو الذي خلق لكم ما في الأرض جميعا ثم استوى إلى السماء فسواهن سبع سماوات وهو بكل شيء عليم هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ لَكُم مَّا فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعاً ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فَسَوَّاهُنَّ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | وہی ہے جس نے سب کچھ جو زمین میں ہے تمہارے لئے پیدا کیا، پھر وہ (کائنات کے) بالائی حصوں کی طرف متوجہ ہوا تو اس نے انہیں درست کر کے ان کے سات آسمانی طبقات بنا دیئے، اور وہ ہر چیز کا جاننے والا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | It is He Who hath created for you all things that are on earth; Moreover His design comprehended the heavens, for He gave order and perfection to the seven firmaments; and of all things He hath perfect knowledge.

| 24. [2:37] | Fatalaqqa adamu min rabbihikalimatin fataba AAalayhi innahu huwa alttawwabualrraheemu | فتلقى آدم من ربه كلمات فتاب عليه إنه هو التواب الرحيم فَتَلَقَّى آدَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِ كَلِمَاتٍ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ إِنَّهُ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر آدم (علیہ السلام) نے اپنے رب سے (عاجزی اور معافی کے) چند کلمات سیکھ لئے پس اللہ نے ان کی توبہ قبول فرما لی، بیشک وہی بہت توبہ قبول کرنے والا مہربان ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then learnt Adam from his Lord words of inspiration, and his Lord Turned towards him; for He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.

[2:30] | Wa-ith qala rabbuka lilmala-ikatiinnee jaAAilun fee al-ardi khaleefatan qalooatajAAalu feeha man yufsidu feeha wayasfiku alddimaawanahnu nusabbihu bihamdika wanuqaddisu lakaqala innee aAAlamu ma la taAAlamoona | وإذ قال ربك للملائكة إني جاعل في الأرض خليفة قالوا أتجعل فيها من يفسد فيها ويسفك الدماء ونحن نسبح بحمدك ونقدس لك قال إني أعلم ما لا تعلمون وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً قَالُواْ أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُّفْسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَاءَ وَنَحْنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَ قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ مَا لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور (وہ وقت یاد کریں) جب آپ کے رب نے فرشتوں سے فرمایا کہ میں زمین میں اپنا نائب بنانے والا ہوں، انہوں نے عرض کیا: کیا تُو زمین میں کسی ایسے شخص کو (نائب) بنائے گا جو اس میں فساد انگیزی کرے گا اور خونریزی کرے گا؟ حالانکہ ہم تیری حمد کے ساتھ تسبیح کرتے رہتے ہیں اور (ہمہ وقت) پاکیزگی بیان کرتے ہیں، (اللہ نے) فرمایا: میں وہ کچھ جانتا ہوں جو تم نہیں جانتے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I will create a vicegerent on earth." They said: "Wilt Thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood?- whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said: "I know what ye know not."

| 26. [2:33] | Qala ya adamu anbi/humbi-asma-ihim falamma anbaahum bi-asma-ihim qalaalam aqul lakum innee aAAlamu ghayba alssamawatiwaal-ardi waaAAlamu ma tubdoona wamakuntum taktumoona | قال يا آدم أنبئهم بأسمائهم فلما أنبأهم بأسمائهم قال ألم أقل لكم إني أعلم غيب السماوات والأرض وأعلم ما تبدون وما كنتم تكتمون قَالَ يَا آدَمُ أَنْبِئْهُمْ بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ فَلَمَّا أَنبَأَهُمْ بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ غَيْبَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَأَعْلَمُ مَا تُبْدُونَ وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْتُمُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اللہ نے فرمایا: اے آدم! (اب تم) انہیں ان اشیاء کے ناموں سے آگاہ کرو، پس جب آدم (علیہ السلام) نے انہیں ان اشیاء کے ناموں سے آگاہ کیا تو (اللہ نے) فرمایا: کیا میں نے تم سے نہیں کہا تھا کہ میں آسمانوں اور زمین کی (سب) مخفی حقیقتوں کو جانتا ہوں، اور وہ بھی جانتا ہوں جو تم ظاہر کرتے ہو اور جو تم چھپاتے ہو | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | He said: "O Adam! Tell them their names." When he had told them, Allah said: "Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of heaven and earth, and I know what ye reveal and what ye conceal?"

| Words | |قال - He said,| يا - O| آدم - "O Adam!| أنبئهم - Inform them| بأسمائهم - of their names."| فلما - And when| أنبأهم - he had informed them| بأسمائهم - of their names,| قال - He said,| ألم - "Did not| أقل - I say| لكم - to you,| إني - Indeed, I| أعلم - [I] know| غيب - (the) unseen| السماوات - (of) the heavens| والأرض - and the earth,| وأعلم - and I know| ما - what| تبدون - you reveal| وما - and what| كنتم - you [were]| تكتمون - conceal."| | ||||||

[2:38] | Qulna ihbitoo minhajameeAAan fa-imma ya/tiyannakum minnee hudan faman tabiAAahudaya fala khawfun AAalayhim wala hum yahzanoona | قلنا اهبطوا منها جميعا فإما يأتينكم مني هدى فمن تبع هداي فلا خوف عليهم ولا هم يحزنون قُلْنَا اهْبِطُواْ مِنْهَا جَمِيعاً فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّيْ هُدًى فَمَنْ تَبِعَ هُدَايَ فَلاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | ہم نے فرمایا: تم سب جنت سے اتر جاؤ، پھر اگر تمہارے پاس میری طرف سے کوئی ہدایت پہنچے تو جو بھی میری ہدایت کی پیروی کرے گا، نہ ان پر کوئی خوف (طاری) ہوگا اور نہ وہ غمگین ہوں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | We said: "Get ye down all from here; and if, as is sure, there comes to you Guidance from me, whosoever follows My guidance, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

| Words | |قلنا - We said,| اهبطوا - "Go down| منها - from it| جميعا - all (of you),| فإما - and when,| يأتينكم - comes to you| مني - from Me| هدى - Guidance,| فمن - then whoever| تبع - follows| هداي - My Guidance,| فلا - [then] no| خوف - fear| عليهم - (will be) on them| ولا - and not| هم - they| يحزنون - will grieve.| | ||||||
| 28. [2:35] | Waqulna ya adamu oskunanta wazawjuka aljannata wakula minha raghadan haythushi/tuma wala taqraba hathihi alshshajaratafatakoona mina alththalimeena | وقلنا يا آدم اسكن أنت وزوجك الجنة وكلا منها رغدا حيث شئتما ولا تقربا هذه الشجرة فتكونا من الظالمين وَقُلْنَا يَا آدَمُ اسْكُنْ أَنتَ وَزَوْجُكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَكُلاَ مِنْهَا رَغَداً حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا وَلاَ تَقْرَبَا هَـذِهِ الشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ الْظَّالِمِينَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور ہم نے حکم دیا: اے آدم! تم اور تمہاری بیوی اس جنت میں رہائش رکھو اور تم دونوں اس میں سے جو چاہو، جہاں سے چاہو کھاؤ، مگر اس درخت کے قریب نہ جانا ورنہ حد سے بڑھنے والوں میں (شامل) ہو جاؤ گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | We said: "O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden; and eat of the bountiful things therein as (where and when) ye will; but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression."

| Words | |وقلنا - And We said,| يا - O| آدم - "O Adam!| اسكن - Dwell| أنت - you| وزوجك - and your spouse| الجنة - (in) Paradise,| وكلا - and [you both] eat| منها - from it| رغدا - freely| حيث - (from) wherever| شئتما - you [both] wish.| ولا - But do not| تقربا - [you two] approach| هذه - this| الشجرة - [the] tree,| فتكونا - lest you [both] be| من - of| الظالمين - the wrongdoers."| | ||||||
| 29. [2:39] | Waallatheena kafaroo wakaththaboobi-ayatina ola-ika as-habualnnari hum feeha khalidoona | والذين كفروا وكذبوا بآياتنا أولئك أصحاب النار هم فيها خالدون وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرواْ وَكَذَّبُواْ بِآيَاتِنَا أُولَـئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | اور جو لوگ کفر کریں گے اور ہماری آیتوں کو جھٹلائیں گے تو وہی دوزخی ہوں گی، وہ اس میں ہمیشہ رہیں گے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | "But those who reject Faith and belie Our Signs, they shall be companions of the Fire; they shall abide therein."

[2:36] | Faazallahuma alshshaytanuAAanha faakhrajahuma mimma kanafeehi waqulna ihbitoo baAAdukum libaAAdinAAaduwwun walakum fee al-ardi mustaqarrun wamataAAunila heenin | فأزلهما الشيطان عنها فأخرجهما مما كانا فيه وقلنا اهبطوا بعضكم لبعض عدو ولكم في الأرض مستقر ومتاع إلى حين فَأَزَلَّهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ عَنْهَا فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِمَّا كَانَا فِيهِ وَقُلْنَا اهْبِطُواْ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ وَّلَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَّمَتَاعٌ إِلَى حِينٍ | |||||
| Tahir ul Qadri | پھر شیطان نے انہیں اس جگہ سے ہلا دیا اور انہیں اس (راحت کے) مقام سے جہاں وہ تھے الگ کر دیا، اور (بالآخر) ہم نے حکم دیا کہ تم نیچے اتر جاؤ، تم ایک دوسرے کے دشمن رہو گے۔ اب تمہارے لئے زمین میں ہی معیّنہ مدت تک جائے قرار ہے اور نفع اٹھانا مقدّر کر دیا گیا ہے | ||||||
| Yousuf Ali | Then did Satan make them slip from the (garden), and get them out of the state (of felicity) in which they had been. We said: "Get ye down, all (ye people), with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood - for a time."
